drag i have some spare discs you can have. I can't guarantee getting them posted today as i'll struggle to remove them with my broken elbow.

just cover the postage and you can have them. They are straight but have done approx 20000 miles.

Right quick update, Got the new discs installed, they look decent, asked the shop to bleed the brakes to build up pressure in them, they bled them a little, and i picked it up.

Now we have new discs, new HH pads, new seals and new fluid, the ****ers have bugger all pressure, i'm nearly at the bar when the real stopping power happens.

Now i've cable tied the lever to pressurize the system over night, ( last night) it made no diff, so i've re tied it again to night.

Now ..am i being a little impatient, the shop guys said, it could take a while b4 i get full pressure again due to all the new kit ??

Am i going back to him on sat to get him to strip and re do the calipers etc ?

What a crock!!

If you pull the lever to the bar, does it 'bite' (pads gripping discs) then slowly go all the way back to the bar? .. i.e. is there leakage on the M/C piston seal.

I had the same problem when I had new discs and pads put on. It took about 100 miles for them to bed in, bloody scary when I was doing 60 down a main road and a badger decided to cross in front of me!!

You just have to be extremely careful for a bit but it will get better.

Here's a wee tip - unmount the calipers from the forks and give them a few taps of a mallet while holding them at different angles. When refilling a drained system its quite easy to have air pockets behind the pots which no amount of bleeding will remove. Once you've done this tap the lines all the way to the top, then do a quick bleed at the top end of the lines. Same as when doing the caliper end - pressure the lever, loosen the top banjo momentarily, and close it again before the lever meets the grip. Needless to say, place loads of cloth under the banjo before opening it.

Need to do the very same myself - I did the whole overhaul thing too and still not happy with the feel from the lever yet...

Hang on a minute ... if this was common ... then how come NEW bikes don't suffer the same fate??? ... Not saying you are fibbing, but I really really don't think there can be much in this, red herring and all that. I think he has another problem ... be it they didn't bleed them properly or a faulty M/C.

Well there is the possibility that the work wasn't done properly on mine as well, it wasn't done by my normally mechanic. It was about 2 years ago so can't remember exactly what was happening with the lever but it definately felt like I had no brakes for a few days.

i'll try and wrattle the calipers again on saturday, and the lines to see if i can shake out any extra air in them, i get the feeling tho that it';s just gonna take time to get them back to where they were, i can still remember the first day i got up on her the front brakes were like razors and she could stop on a 2 cent coin.

WicklowSv ... dont i know know you from some where else !!!

will you follow me on sat in case i go literally "over the gap"

As for new bikes, would it not be semi safe to say that the bikes would be sitting up for a while, or perhaps the brake fluid is installed ina special way by a special machine ..maybe
