just got the results back from the operation, not good news...

it wasn't what they thought it was, it's now primary breast cancer and we're back in for another more extensive operation on the 21st, followed by the dreaded chemotherapy...

in a word, ********

thanks to all those who replied, and those who sent me PMs, without wanting to sound like a cliche it did bring a tear to my eye to have people you've not met or even spoken to before show their support.

still a bit shocked about the whole thing, still haven't received the full results from the histology so it's a little up in the air right now, but on the positive side it's still early, we have one of the best breast surgeons on the island and we have plenty of practical support from friends and family

will keep you guys updated when we have a bit more info, thanks again

My sympathys to all at this difficult time and I hope for speedy recoverys. Lilly were there any other symptoms your mother suffered from as I also have a corn on my right foot that has been there for about a year and a half and nothing I do will make it go away. I've been to the doctors back in feb this year and used the cream they said to use but still nothing I've used corn plasters,savlon,skin cream,I've even dug it out my foot several times leaving a crater nearly 1cm deep but still it comes back. I never thought that it could be cancer but after reading your thread I now am slightly concerned.

well i said i'd update so here we are...

second op went fine, and had the results on weds. fortunately the lymph nodes show that the cancer hasn't spread beyond the breast, unfortunately despite removing a large (~2" across) amount of tissue they still haven't found the extents of the cancerous cells, so it's back into hospital on the 11th for a mastectomy+reconstruction, followed by chemo

Sorry to hear that..... hope the next op is a success and they can get all rid of all the cells!

Well, it has just hit my family again. The bro in law has just been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus. First last year my other bro in law, then my wife, now another bro in law. 2 of them have never smoked in their lives. maybe it was their childhood upbringing, pretty dire. But what the hell, all in their mid 40s, hardly old is it.
