Good choice, as Opera runs threads safer than FF does. Plus the fact that FF needs a preference changing to make full use of the threads it can run.

Also, on the issue of Chrome's java speed, well, that's debatable. If you point it at a site that relies heavily on XMLRPC (for example, anything over at Google) then yes, great, it's fantastic. However, for anything else, it's not so good.

Why? Well, Chrome has an internal engine (one of the additional processes seen by others & commented on) that converts JavaScript into machine code (ASM). For the non-geeky, that just means it'll run as fast as your machine can run it - once the translation has happened. The translated ASM code is also cached in the tab of Chrome, so if you visit a site with the same JavaScript in the same tab, the code optimisation is only done once, and the resultant execution is multiple times faster than Sun's implimentation of JavaScript.

But if you visit sites that don't copy/share their JavaScript, the caching engine in Chrome actually slows you down!!

Let it run for a while & you'll see that slowly climb. I think there's a memory leak in there somewhere which I'm trying to nail. The workaround is to regularly close the tab that you're in, and work in a new one - the thread sandboxing will cater for the memory leak.

Been using it a bit now. Two questions:

Can anyone else get it to display this site and other forums using nice fonts? Mine is still stuck in a carpy looking pixel font.

Chrome seems to make my PC work at random points. I will just be sitting there nad suddenly I can hear my PC buzzing away with a strange regular noise. I don't like it . What is it doing that it isn't telling me? Doesn't happen with IE.

Grr, now it is sitting here using up my CPU (1%-17% of it!) almost all the time, and using 60,000K memory whereas IE is not using my CPU and is using 28,000K memory for the same websites.

DELETE.

Don't worry, it'll just be sending your bookmarks and browsing history to google. No need for concern
