I don't like paddock stands... on the abba stand I've had a 4 foot cracking bar in use. I don't think youd get away with that with paddock stands.

How do people manage to do this????[/quote]
I'm human - I make mistakes ![]() Struggling with a fuggin paddock stand and hooks, not correctly seated on the bobbins. Rubber cups are even worse, bike will slide off these given enough time!

The rear is dead easy with the hooks/bobbins...I do struggle with the front though!

I'd rather jack up the front under the engine, using an Abba or NWS stand on the swinging arm as the pivot point.
Saves having to buy a SPECIFIC front paddock stand.

Plus having a specific front stand is another piece of carp cluttering up your garage for most of the year.
The Abba & NWS types stow away quite neatly

Aye, I have an NWS and use it a lot. I rate it better than an Abba simply because you do not need to by fitting kits.
I picked this front stand up from an ex-racer for nothing, and if you shop carefully you will notice these stands come with all the adaptors you could possibly want, very handy for quickly whipping the front up. I think you will notice that the manufacturer sells them with the full fitting kit, its the sellers that sell the specific kits separately. |

Look on the Articles section of the SVOrg site 'Diary of a Mk1 SV owner'. You can make a stand out of wood/metal angle braces, to support the front under the engine
Attachment 2828 Before I got my ABBA stand I used something like this to take out my front forks, it did the job. I used my crash bungs as the point of support, with a brace going across to join them. Plus the paddock stand on the swingarm. It was a bit precarious to say the least, and the main reason for getting a proper stand! ![]() Just a couple of 4x2, plus screws and angle brackets from the iron mongers. Cheaper than a proper stand. Got any mates who could lend you a stand? ![]()

Aye point accepted on the NWS not needing additional fitting kits and getting one for free even better!
But you don't see them appear on fleabay very often, whereas ABBA's do, even if it means sifting through all that Swedish pop bands back catalogue. Mind you I still have a secret place for the blonde one. I still kick myself for not picking up an ABBA stand at a bike jumble for £20, no cash or means of getting home, other than strapping it to my back and riding it home on the SV. Either way both will be better than a centre stand ![]()
