Hmmm dunno. Can't remember? I had a great trackday that day - definitely one of the best. Are you sure it was the same day? Weaselz and Balky were there too - Weaselz riding a yellow curvy and had a big highside coming out of the long right hander at the back.

My recollection was that an awful lot of people managed to throw their bikes up the road, a point not lost on the IAM virgins. My original point still stands though Luke, most IAM bike groups are a pretty diverse bunch with a fair percentage pretty dedicated to going out and having a lot of fun on their bikes, and not at all deserving of the reputation some people seem to think they have. Now IAM car groups are another matter.......

To become an observer you av to do the following,

Theory test, not difficult, 1 section on the IAM and 1 on highway code,

riding assessment with senior obs
2 runs obs associate
1 run obs associate with senior obs following
3 more associate runs
1 run obs by senior obs
observe a mock test with senior observer.

Easy really

Daryl.

I dunno, the mere mention of IAM and I get all sleepy. Perhaps it's the slippers image and those big arm chairs they ride.

Then I suggest you ditch the stereotype and find out for yourself.

I did the IAM piece a few years ago. I don't ride to IAM standards any more but I'm definitely a better rider - more aware, better cornering (still far from perfect mind, lots of room for improvement) and faster.

people who take the **** and aren't open to furthering their skills on something as dangerous as a motorbike are ignorant to be honest as you are never a perfect rider (always gaining experience). as for the IAM skills, they are specifically meant for road riding and have no place on a race track! thats why people do track days, to find out what their machine can do and to learn racing skills. i wonder if more people would be doing the test if IAM was telling us to go as fast and as wrecklessly on normal roads?

I've been a few times and to their open days and to be honest it just confirmed what I thought about these guys the first day I met some. They are not all bad but the few always stick out and seem to be the one's you deal with. My hatred is instilled as they took the p*ss out of me when I went to them for some advice before passing my full test. They told me to come back when I got a real bike and ignored me the rest of the time. Sure I was still on L plates but I wanted to know some more info about the advanced test. Oh and it was a senior observer that was the most arrogant twit there. It's better than no training but there are better (although more expensive) ways. You get what you pay for. I think some of the Police call them "I'm an Average Motorcyclist". I've spoken to one Police Biker who is a friend of my instructor and he thinks they are not enforced enough. I dunno, I just didn't like them when I went so why would I pay to be around them, good riders or not.
