You want a nice fast lens you do, I love my 50mm f1.8 in low light. Raf assures me it's nowhere near as cheap to get an equivalent for the Nikon though

Tell Maria, Jambo says you have to go and buy a nice new shiney lens. She'll be sure to agree with you then

Oh jambo, if only it was that easy

I want all sorts of lenses...at the moment, I'd like a panoramic lense, and a longer lense at least..

And now, the lense you describe. I like night time pictures. I'll tell maria tonight that Jambo told me I NEED, MUST HAVE, CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT a 50mm (f 1. lense if i intend on taking future Soho meeting photo's in the winter

Sadly there isn't a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens with an auto-focus motor for nikon. You have to go up to f/1.4. C'mon Xmas, arrive already!

why have a motor, thats built into the camera and its what drives the lens, only realy realy big lenses somtime have built in motors

the nikon 50mm 1.8 is a AF lens

Aha! Nikon D40, D40x & D60 don't have motors built into the body. Hence, if you want auto focus the lens must have it. Which means you can't buy the cheap £80 50mm prime, you have to go for the more expensive lens that have the motor. (Prices starting at £289 + delivery). And lots of little lenses have motors, my kit 18-55mm has a motor in it.
