My instinct was to take this conversation to PM, but I see no real reason to...

The basis of the information comes from the site hosting the list. A hop skip & a jump from there reveals the person's home IP address (as you stated "numpty," think their personal address on the internet).

They do have a firewall, however, as I stated, firewalking is possible. This isn't the art of walking barefoot over hot embers. Firewalking in IT terms, is about seeing what's behind the firewall, and in most instances, accessing it despite the firewall being there.

Needless to say, but their firewall isn't exactly amazingly secure.

EDIT: To get the above information, and consider sending a document to the printer I found, took me approx 20mins from finding the thread. Scary what you can do with these computer-thingy-ma-doo-dahs isn't it? Oh, and I'd better clarify, I just thought about sending a random picture from the internet with the words "You've been a bit silly."

EDIT2: Supprisingly, having a little read around the t'inter-web... most people seem to be taking this the way that the .Org have. ie, BNP aren't fantastic, and we don't really like them, but this information shouldn't be made public. I'm genuinely shocked that I've read very few "pitchfork" comments!!

Not worth the potential comeback on me.

So firewalls dont really work then?

Firewalls do work, but ports are open through the firewall. If its set-up incorrectly then you can potentially get in through those ports. Its like leaving the front door locked but leaving a bedroom window open. Find a ladder then you can get it.

Firewalls are very dependant on setup. The sort of thing that muppets buy from PC world are a placebo... as a pro-geek like baph can obviously get through in 2 minutes flat.

BNP is a political party, with some controversial policies, and some silly ones, more of a pressure group really. But it's not politically acceptable to be a member, comrade.

They do, but the security of the firewall is all down to how well the firewall was setup by the person doing it. I.e it was setup by me, you'd get through it because its not my area of expertise, but if setup properly then yes they do work.

Also alot of managers don't "get" I.T. / Internet security and they dont put much focus on it until after they've been hacked that is...
