Thats a new one on me Dizz, i wonder why its been changed. Notice its only if you have pplied before the last one ran out so not applicable in this case

As earlier highly unlikely to get done, but i had the ocassion to contact their legal team recently about replacing a stolen disc and was informed that if i was to ride or park the bike on a public highway them i would be commiting the offwnce of failure to display whilst waiting on it to arrrive despite it being taxed.

I think its probably as so many renew on line these days and have to wait. Like I say, its in the nice red box on the back of the renewal notice, theres also a bt about SORNing on it too. I'm a bit sad and like to read all the cack they put on it
I still like to get it done at the post office, so I have physically got the damn thing in my hand. ....and cause they still put it as a bicycle

My bike went out with the old tax disc on it today, but with the new one in Im Indoors' rucksack...but only because the bloody small allen bolts on the holder were rusted shut, was a reet pain in da ass to get it unjammed.

not true:

from the government's own website:

Quote:
If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.

The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

Date you need new tax from so it would seem yours ran out in Jan according to that. Mine says 1st October 2009 and my 6 month tax started yesterday.
