Its not exactly in a bad state, still useable, just really slow/tempramental..
Would be nice to get it back to what it was like when it was new.. The hard drive atm is 236GB, and is 80% free i think. |

Norton Anti-Virus has made every machine I've seen it installed on run like a bag of sh*te.

And you need a norton removal tool to get rid of the fecker. It's like a virus in itself, grabs hold and wrecks it. Ya dad's paying because people think they need to pay for quality, Grisoft's AVG 8 should do ya combined with a weekly scan or so of malware bytes. Online armour's a good idea for program/registry protection + firewall. perhaps overkill though.

Get rid of norton to start with.
Download AVG as its a decent AV product for the price (ie free) - if you want to go the pay for route kaspersky or Sophos are quite reliable. Dont forget to also download a firewall as norton probably does that too. Zone Alarm is an obvious choice (even tho its owned by some not so nice folks these days). Just be carefull if you are running vista as Zone Alarm/AVG don't work together too well so Avast is another choice for Av in that case. For malaware/spyware then Adaware is reasonably good tho i have no experience of the software at the start of the thread. |
