how do you manage to carry so much under your pillion seat? Granted i have scottoiler fitted there, but it doesn't take up that much space i think.

Thanks for all your replies.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one riding unprepared for a problem.

Have you ever had to use it and did it work well?

I keep reading about these cans of expanding foam for fixing punctures. Has anyone used one? Are they safe?

Re the bungs & compressed gas, I've used it twice now. The first time, took me maybe 20mins from a hole in the tyre to a fully inflated & sealed rear tyre.

Essentially, thick end of the bung in first after putting rubber glue on it, into the tyre, twist the tool to remove but leave the bung there. Slice off the excess with the knife provided. Then inflate the tyre with the compressed CO2 canisters (1 canister == 10psi).

Both times I've bunged my own tyre it was the rear. I then proceeded to ride for a couple of thousand miles, without much hanging about involved. I found it perfectly safe up to track speeds. After a few hundred miles, I struggled to see where the bung was, but if you looked hard you could see it.

As for compounds you can squirt into the valve, like Tyre Weld. I've tried those countless times. At least half of the time they haven't sealed the tyre. Each & every time I've used tyre weld, I've stuck to below 60mph and ridden straight to a tyre shop & no further. It also makes a mess when you take the tyre off.

A kit with bungs/gas for £20, or tyre weld for £7.99. You pays your money you takes your chance.

EDIT: Whichever way you repair your own tyre, a certain amount of common sense is required!!

Bought my SV second hand so didn't get the tool kit with it. So I generally don't take any with me. Would you recommend taking any or just rely on the AA if it breaks down?
Ive still got the kit from my old curvy after it was killed, if you want it its yours.

I just carry a can of tyre repair and an rac card.
