Hovis - that is shocking!
I think anyone who goes on the bike without the proper protective gear is an idiot, but hey, they are big enough and ugly enough to face the consequences. BUT people who allow children on bikes without the proper gear - they should be hung, drawn and quartered! |

a) Lower topspeed than when I did by pushbike. b) More visible than when going by pushbike c) Even with just jeans, gloves and lid, I was still wearing more protection than when on a pushbike. And yet I never considered the same trip by pushbike particularly risky. I've been saved in highspeed crashes wearing good kit and injured in low speed ones due to just wearing jeans. I still believe I am the person best placed to judge the risk and make the choice. Incidentally: What's worse, riding ROSPA textbook style in jeans and t-shirt, or a power ranger weekend warrior overtaking like a **** and nearly losing it on every corner? As another road user, the latter is more of a threat to me and hence I'm more concerned about that, irrespective of the damage (or lack of it) he may do to himself. |

At the end of the day there is no legal requirement to wear full protective clothing. As long as you have a lid on and are covering your nether regions the police can do very little. Like I said, if people want to risk wearing shorts and trainers it's up to them. |

I can't comment on if her nether regions were covered, as I only saw the bike from the back as it went past. ![]()

were are all guilty of the risk vs time aspect of biking eg nip to shop stick on lid and off we go , and i think we all agree that when making a dission for yourself thats well your call live with it, when it comes to others eg taking pillons weather child or adult the rider must take some responcability , for example i would never take a child on my bike unless they had enough kit on to survive a nucular war ,adults lid jacket gloves, sencible shoes
but when i do see other bikers in jeans and t-shirts i always think brave or stupid but goodluck mate for your sake i hope i works out for you, tbh now riding without gloves just feels weird and after my offs if its over 20m my lid is on even on private roads |

last week there was someone (older person not a young un) riding a scooter through St Andrews with no helmet on. This is a very busy town with lots of tourists at the moment who don't know which way traffic travel on the road and can just walk out in front of you.
