Sorry to ask a question which I’m sure has been debated many times before, but what is the point in spending £1000’s on improving a road sv (in terms of performance) which will be slower than a bike such as a sports 600 of similar value? Why not buy a 600 in the first place (assuming money isn’t an issue)?
I can appreciate spending money to make the bike look better but I just don’t understand spending loads of cash on a bike that is destined to be a slow bike, why not just buy a faster bike in the first place? I have raced an sv before and used it on track and know it is fun to show up faster bikes, but if I wanted a fast bike I would buy the newest 1000cc bike/or race prepped bike I could afford. ??? |

Excellent question!!! It is a lot easier to learn to be fast on a slower bike... I am a lot faster on my SV650... than I ever was on my old R1... Sure any monkey can twist the throttle on a straight line... Like at track days... On the straight away several 600cc pass me... If do not out brake them, It takes me 3-4 corners to catch up and pass them... I won't lie, there are riders I can not pass... That is just a fact of life, there is always going to be some one better... Looks are not very relevant unless you are just pretending to be a rider... Remember, you are showing off your skill over the skill of other riders on way faster and much more powerful bikes... I think a lot of us love the feel of the V-Twin engine... I would love to have a KTM RC8R or a Ducati 1198R... But can you imagine the cost of a high side or even a low side? I would cry like if my mama died... Luis PS If Money was not an issue would have

They still want the comfort of an SV, rather than a cramped 600. They might want a small capacity v twin rather than a screaming 600, n cant afford the money for a fast ducati so get an sv n just tweak it abit. Or just like modifying the bikes they have ![]() But i cant be the voice of the majority, just what pops up in my head ![]() |

For me I would be perfectly comfortable on a modern sportsbike*, but don't want one because they are so common.
*especially after getting rid of silly clipons and putting proper bars on

Everyone will have a different prespective... For me the SV650 is a tool... Mainly, I wanted to be a better sport rider... I attend about 14 track days a year, and at track days I ride for 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off for eight seccions. I also do the occational Saturday 400 mile canyon loop ride, some times clock wise, othertimes counter clock wise... I like couter clock wise because you get an adrenaline rush coming really fast down the mountain... Sometimes I attend Saturday bike night just to socialize with friends and to invite new people to do track days... About Confort, I do not think Spies is thinking..."I should really get some gel grips for this handlebars vibration" When Rossi is on his tail... Confort is not a big part of the equation when riding a sport bike at speed... If there was a good and affordable V-Twin supersport I would be all over it... Closest thing is Honda RC51 but it is a big bike and egros feels wird when seating on it... I was really looking forward to the updated 3rd Gen SV... I was hopping for an SV850S and a SV1200S... Instead we got a Gay Douche, I mean Gladius from Suzuki... How very disapponting... Luis |
