I know that corner. If you were going 20 or 25 mph then I'm sure you were leaning enough for a bit of diesel to take you off. It's a busy old road too so that makes it more likely.
Don't do anything hasty regarding whether to give up or not. You may never fall off again! |

Eek, ****ter! I hit ice at low speed and it was near impossible to correct, just went straight away, but on a busy unshaded road?

Yeh I know what you mean about attiutudes. I mean this wasn't anything to do with me misjudging a corner or anything. As you can see from the pic, you hardly even need to lean, and I was only around 25.
But nevertheless, there must have been something there that caused the upset to my bike, and as the rider its my job to spot...which I didn't, and that's not good enough for me really. So painful mistake learnt. I've already been busy, and have already bought from ebay a new front brake lever, rear indicator and rear tail light. Few more items to go. Handlebar will be a pain to find! Also will I need a torque wrench to undo the handlebar? |

No, not to undo the handlebar. But I suspect you are getting confused. A torque wrench is only every used to tighten something[1]. I'm presuming from the pic you have a gladius, I don't know how the handlebars work on those but I'm assuming it's just one bent bit of bar with two clamps, in which case while *ideally* you should use a torque wrench as long as you make sure the clamps are tight you should be OK. If in any doubt go to your dealers after doing them up and ask them nicely just to make sure they're done up properly as the last think you want is your handlebars coming loose!

Oh so torque wrenches tighten stuff. So spanners enough to remove the handlebars.
Looking at a manual I have for my er6f, the handlebar removal goes, Remove clutch lever assembly, left switch housing, left handlebar weight, front brake master cylinder, right switch housing, right handlebar weight, throttle grip...then finally the handlebar holder bolts/holder and the handlebar itself. Any special tools I might need for any of that. Aren't throttle grips a pain to take off? |

damn sorry to hear that
you dont take the throttle grip off you take the throttle tube out of the housing, the other side you will need to remove posibly replace tools the only things i needed for the sv were alen key,small spaner,screwdriver and that was it Ps i had 2 offs in 4months... on two diff bikes first was my fault paniced on a corner (head on 4x4 coming out of small carpark entrance) hit front brake bike went down, second was back ice, less than 5mph and cost £300+ in damage bars rear sets brakes, nearly a radiator, i got back on straight away after both and was fine ![]() hope the pain aint to bad ![]() |

thanks mate. yeh the pains manageable. I'm just looking to get my right peg and lever sorted asap so I can ride it. Not easy trying to hover your right leg in the air is it?!
Just wondering, anybody know if you can rebend handlebar back to how it should be. Having real trouble finding a cheap one online. Also if my handlebars are bent, could there be a chance that I have also twisted my forks? thanks |

Sorry to hear about your off and know where you're coming from with the riding dilemma. I was recently in the same boat, had 2 offs in a elatively short space of time and it bashes your confidence yeah but what you gotta remember is sometimes it's just bad luck and your not to blame. Getting back on is scary for a while as you feel shaken but you soon get back into it and start to enjoy it again.

I have just got back on the bike this year after my off in AUG last year. It was quite a serious off for both me and the bike lol .... i had my knee wired back together and my bike went under the spanner too .. with a GSXR front end new tank ect ect .
I have just started to get my confidence back and i came off again going into the works car par the other day... They had jet-washed the car park the day before and there was black ice all over the car-park but the roads was fine so i didn't expect it at all . This make me think is it really worth it .... and i have decided that next year i am not going to ride through winter and i am going to try get a car/licence and keep the bike for summer. I know you still run a risk in summer but winters are no fun and just make any situation 10 times worse . I don't want to give up riding but I do want to give up winter. Hope your OK and you recover soon .
