We never got to Hatton garden, as we found my ring in Leeds. But like Hatton Garden this jewellers shop was obviously very classy as it had a security guard outside and inside If you google Hatton garden all the jewellers shops come up in a fancy page, its great.

The guy ont door looked like John Coffee(sp) from the Green Mile, and he always says hello when we see him stood there. My we must have been unforgettable lol.

personally i would die if IP done it at a gathering. He proposed to me on Valentines days in a japanese restaurant in japanese. He toyed with putting the ring on the conveyor belt but decided against it. the staff knew and it was nice having a different twist to it. He bought the ring and it fitted perfectly. I had the choice to change it but I like the idea of having something that you didn't choose for yourself and that he took time over
I would say in private with the jelly ring then leave it a few days then give her a proper ring with the same conditions. If you hate it we will change it. Don't be too precious about getting the ring too right or getting it too wrong

mines - similar too

I aint read the replies but for the love of god do it in private. Theres going to be enough pressure on her without all her friends n family wondering bout her reply.

I'm sure it'll work out and she'll say yes but its alot for a girl to cope with (i know i proposed once got a yes then it turned to a no and relationship ended ).

Anyway when she says yes org wedding?!

I voted for private with a ring you have picked!

I remember the day drew asked me to marry him like it was yesterday, it's also the way you ask.

Do something that is special to you pair..... drew was planning to ask me at the giants causeway when we were on a family holiday however changed it to a time when it was just the two of us on a sunday afternoon.

Pick the ring, she will love it as it is something that you have picked for her, can always give her the chance to change it!

If she is expecting it, the party will be when she may think it will happen... to do it one morning or evening when its completely out of the blue maybe will get more of a surprise factor???

seems to be the most popular answer, spoke with a friends misses last night who's also friends with Abi and asked her opinion and she agrees with the majority of you lot. She also added that a big fun part of getting engaged is Abi been able to phone people to tell them. Obviously if her nearest and dearest are at the bash then there really isnt anyone to call and so the hype will die down quicker.

When we did it, I rang my mum at work, and my dad at home, my dad came up within an hour, to drink all Petes Cardhu and my mum came up after work at nine o clock....they were well chuffed.

Defo much more fun for your lady if she can get to gossip to everyone on the phone...just be aware that you won't be able to use it for hours!

I'd say do it in private on the morning of the party. Don't worry about the ring, it's the asking that's important, that can come later and you can make a day of ring shopping with a nice lunch and it'll be fun and you know it'll be a ring she really loves not just one she says she loves so as not to upset you.

But that way you can say lovely things about her at the party and finish with the big news and lots of champagne.

And for a laugh at the party you could present her with a massive plastic fake diamond from Claire's Accessories that she can flash all night. I had mine on for 2 weeks before I got my real engagement ring.

woooooooo

I voted jelly ring in private, private just seems more appropriate and serious + the jelly ring is a nice touch (aslong as she gets the joke) then you can go shop for a ring together.
