lol, clearly not everyone in a uniform sticks to the profile.
I'd still bet that when he first got his uniform he was really proud to have gotten it. It will have been many years on before he started thinking what the uniform could be getting him.

I've had a few negative experiences with law enforcement but those have probably been CPS related (sorry we can't proceed with your crime because a perfect set of prints and identified ner' do well aren't enough to convict these days...)

Whereas the positive have all been related directly to a coppers attitude.
Having 2 mates in the force and several in the armed forces, and airsofting with a number of SO19 types I've been tempted to try out for it myself once or twice...if only I wasn't ALREADY dissillusioned...and I haven't even joined yet!*

(used to read coppersblog and the like as well).

*I get enough of being blamed for things that aren't my fault, being told to do things in a way I know won't work and banging my head against brick walls in my current job.

That is awesome. Would have been brill if you got into a high speed chase and got the guy. I saw one such show some time back, and it was a highway police car that ended up having to take the chase into an urban setting. Either way, the guy driving who was relatively young ended up losing the guy. Can't be too happy that his one chance of video glory became a video of floppage.

Oh I don't know, we had both occur and they were both used. There have to be rules around pursuit management and it's daft to put lives at risk unnecessarily. A huge part of my job is managing these "encounters" to keep the danger to the public at a minimum and at times the best way to do this is to discontinue the pursuit. Nobody "likes" doing it but in this game being professional enough to do it when necessary is essential. The problem with the TV companies is what makes good police work doesn't necessarily make good TV. They want all the dodgy excitement, my job is to keep that to a minimum. We parted amicably...

This one?

As RH says, pursuits are dangerous, risky jobs. No-one can guess what's going to happen, we just try to minimise the risks as much as we can. That's one reason we have such fast cars, not just to keep up, but so we can slow for hazards such as junctions, bad bends etc, then catch up again.

This donut was in a stolen 2.0t S60, drunk and without a licence in the first place. He forgot to brake for a junction, went straight on through a set of railings, a concrete fence and into the house which was luckily, empty. The driver still managed to get out and run but was "detained" within meters.
We were lucky that day.

Then again, one of the lads tried to stop a motorbike. As soon as the blue lights came on, he made off. The lad turned off the lights and stopped his car - it's not worth the risk. However, the video showed the biker completley fail to make the next corner and fly about fifteen feet into the air! He came down with a real thump! Makes me laugh every time.

Pete
