Years ago when I was little we saw some sort of jump jet, sure my dad said it was a harrier or something. It appeared out of no where, sort of did an emergency stop directly in front of Blackpool Tower then sodded off, as quick as it appeared. Pretty sure it was almost stood on its nose on the beach.

Either way, it was a spectacular thing, never seen anything like it since.

Loud - I remember going to a leuchars show as a kid. I really wanted to be an RAF pilot, but have crap eyesight.

I remember the Vulcan displays at Finningley in the 70's, they used to do a three plane scramble going from engine start to airborne in minutes, the noise was amazing. It was special for me as my Dad worked on them at the time.

Found this on You Tube - turn the sound right up!!

A mate and I were fishing in the river on a sandbar near a bridge when a (then state of the art) F-14 Tomcat came over a mountain ridge to our right barely clearing the trees and then dove straight down at us.

We thought he was going to crash and hit the deck when he got about 30 to 40 ft. away. He was no more than 20 ft over our heads, if that.
So close .....
I could see the pilot laugh when we dove for the ground.

Of course he was practicing a missile or torpedo run on the bridge and as soon as he got past us he shot nearly perfectly straight upwards towards the sky. (as he would to avoid an exploding bridge in front of him)
Which meant of course.... we got a right sandblasting in the jet wash.
