noice, back from scotland last night - was meant to be out for dan's (irksy) stag do in leeds.....

"I'll just rest my eyes for half an hour then drive down there......" zzzzzzzzzz.............

that was at 8pm when I got home, woke up at half 3 this morning!!! Feck!

Roads were good - I was staying in dunbar (only like 20-30 miles over the wrong side of the border) but did this route... Not exactly a grand tour of scotland but I was only stopping for 2 days.

A7 was good, as were the back roads between galashiels and coldstream but jesus christ, they don't half put speed cameras in some weird places up there! Nice twisty road, got stuck behind 3 cars with the front one towing a caravan, the road straightened out onto a nice half mile long straight so I gunned past the lot of them & thought "Well I've got her singing now, I'm in the middle of no where, just a little bit more ............. oh shiiiiiiite there's a speed camera!!!!"

I was still bedding my new front pads & discs in but managed to pass the camera at about 64mph while still braking!

If the weather's good and you've got a map then I'm sure you'll have a great time oh and watch out for the wild haggis! I nearly hit one as it ran out of a hedge! Think it was chasing after a quorn mebbeh?

LOL! Thanks Paul Will keep the cameras and animals in mind! We'll be staying in a cottage in Fort William & Lochaber, which is sort of West Scotland, I think... so away from the A7, but may venture that way anyway! After all, 10 days is quite a long time to explore, no?

Sounds like you had an awesome time

dont bother with A7, you will have so many fantastic roads on the west of scotland you wont need to venture anywhere near the east. I used to live in Balloch and all the roads around there are brilliant. Put a post in the ecosse section with your dates and you might get a few locals willing tomeet up with you and show you the good stuff or at least recommend the best roads. Im now in sunny aldershot and the roads are mince in comparison and the pot holes mentioned earlier dont add to their appeal.

yeah to be fair I've heard people rave about the west & all around fort william = prolly muuuch better than where I went.

I would recommend this though: http://www.thebestrides.co.uk/ - you can buy a small waterproof/tearproof map with all the best roads highlighted for you, only like £12 or summink
