Only downside of doing the DAS is it costs much moolar. Dunno how much it is these days, but it was a minimum three days at over 350 quid off the top of my head, five years ago.
Also, you kinda hope that booking three days, will be enough, only to realise you aren't as good as you expected, and you really should have booked four. Everybody likes to keep it as cheap as poss obviously. Anyway, before Maria gets to that stage, shes got a date here with some cake tomorrow night ![]() ![]() And if she defo tells me shes coming, then she defo gets cake. ![]()

Well in my opinion we are all still learning everytime we go out on the bikes. I've only been riding a year and already i've clocked up nearly 8k miles on my SV from new. Thats excluding the miles i did in the 3 months training leading up to the DAS test.
Last weekend for the first time I did an IAM assesed ride and have picked up a few more hints and tips like Extreme Postioning = Extreme Safety, riding in 'The Command Position' etc all helping me become safer and quicker by being more fleunt. Hopefully with more IAM training I can learn more and we can all help each other to becoming better riders ![]()

I was a bit rubbish on a bike to say the least when i done my CBT and only just scraped by, but had booked the full DAS course. After a day or so of the DAS course, the instructor was getting worried and concerned, not to mention a bit anxious, aparently he`d never had a fail yet, but we both thought i`d be his first, lol.
One day everything just clicked though. I was over thinking everything and over heating my brain and running out of time at junctions etc, but when I stopped listening to him moaning in my ear and just started riding logically it all worked out. I passed my test first time with no faults at all, which surprised me and the instructor no end, the look on his face was a picture ![]() One trick I did manage on the test though was to lose the tester. I managed to pull out into traffic into a gap he couldn`t pull into in time, so lost him on the road for a good 10 minutes, by the time he caught up, the test was almost over, because if he can`t see you, he can`t fault you ![]() |

Don't think I was taught countersteering though but I was told to stay slightly left of centre when training and again on the test. Which is a bit mad as this gives you more work to do i.e. parked cars on the left, pedestrians, car doors opening etc all this to deal with. Where as the IAM folks tell you to ride 'The Command Position' slighty right of centre that way you can see more, car doors opening for instance won't knock you off etc allowing yo to focus on other hazards.

Police Foundation - Motorcycle Roadcraft. Possibly the dullest book on earth that may just save your life. Well worth at least a borrow from the library. I re-read it every now and then and realise how quickly I slip back into lazy/bad habits, gives me a kick up the bum to keep being critical of my own riding. Actual AIM/ROSPA training obviously even better.
