Yeah but like I say I reckon the air gap in an air bed allows cold air to move around even though the air gap is bigger than a thermarest.

never noticed the larger gap making us feel cold, but we tend to put a blanket on the floor of the bedroom compartment, then the matress, then our gi-nor-mus sleeping bags - toasty

Not really! I use a double air bed - cause i like my comfort and I have only got a 3 man tent that I take on the bike - fit nicely in with just enough space down the side for lid/panniers/clothes/leathers etc

5 mins, 1 pole in the centre-t-top of the tent, easiest tent I've ever done

Use something, anything - made the mistake of not bothering with a rollmat/airbed in isle of man. That was ****ing cold, my logic was 'meh I don't need these comfort luxuries' I forgot about heat transfer...

Another option might be the camp bed approach... mine rolls up into a bundle smaller than a roll mat, and puts me about 6 inches off the ground
