Rather than being a fan of Rossi I am a big admirer of him and his achievements. A romantic end to his glittering career via winning the title on an Italian bike? Stuff of dreams and he would be the first ever to do it with 3 different factories, something his awesome title deserves as I dont think he will actually overtake Ago's overall win stats.
He is a victim though of his own success in part,(the erection of that Hadrians Wall in the garage) he has been allowed to dictate certain matters with Yamaha and in some way they have come back to bite him on the ass. The young upstart is now outshining Rossi on the bike that he put right, that has to hurt? He has reacted a little like Biaggi when he himself came on the scene and started to take away the spotlight from Max. Rossi admittedly has behaved well in public although away from cameras and microphones I am sure he has thrown the odd tantrum. Valentino in truth has not been at his best when sharing billing with a team mate who is also a serious title challenger,he has never had that before...always having team mates who were happy to play his straight man. Expect a radical change at Ducati,I can see Rossi and his techies ditching the minimalistic carbon fibre swingarm that the Ducati presently has. This due to it offering vague front end feel for the riders, which has to be scarey. I can see a massive shift to a double cradle frame set up bwith the Ducati power plant shoe horned in there. That could be the missing link to turn the Duke back in to a serious contender. With some of the switches outlined for next season,it could indeed be far more interesting than than this one with a solid 4 or 5 riders seriously battling for the title. ![]() |

I agree with what you say but I do see it slightly different to that.
Lorenzo is certainly flying and as the commentary said this weekend it is a shame that Rossi has not been fully fit for those missing races as the view upon Jorge is that annoying point of would he be so high flying with Rossi in full contention. I think not personally, but I believe that it would be so very close at the top with maybe Jorge possibly just piping him for 1st in the championship. The set up was defiantly off at Bruno for Rossi whos usually phenomenal on this track and also Mugello which was cleared away. I think fitness had a big issue at Leguna Sega and he didn't do too badly there. What my point is though is when Stoner won the Title from Vale there was no stopping the lad, the way he rode that Duc was unbelievable. I cant stand his miserable mug but you have to hand it to him Ducati wiped the floor with the M1 ok ok tires and fueling system aside Stoner made that go like stuff of a shovel. We where all saying then how can Rossi compete against that speed, is this a new era of the youngsters etc etc. In a way yes it was but Rossi came bounding back and white washed last years championship. (Stoner very unfit to bare-in-mind) I cant however see how Yamaha can develop the bike to be as awesome as it is with out Rossi and his crew. You only have to look at a drag race between the M1 and the rc212V its all in the corners and we all know whos best there. I think next year will be awesome as the M1 and Jorge will be flying, Stoner will have a new lease of life on the Honda. Dani will always be quick, and now has nothing to loose seeing as all contracts are sorted (arn't they?). Rossi and the Crew will develop that bike to a new level, championship winning level we'll have to see but down and out for a new era of riders no-way. However i don't think Jorge is outshining Rossi (not yet anyway). Either way, this is what MotoGP has needed for a while. ![]() |

Some good points made. I would like to add that Lorenzo has been no lower than second step on the podium all season, that includes Valentino's presence before his unfortunate injury,(I really do not think he is helping himself by riding again right now and think his spill in qualifying unsettled him for the race.)
I also think that if Lorenzo were Italian, he would be receiving many more plaudits. Being Spanish maybe does not see him achieve the re3cognition he should be getting as the superb talent that he is? |
