So you're on your 3rd hornet! Sounds good. Is the FI thing only curable with a Power commander? Can't be as bad as the V-strom was. That took me a year to diagnose and fix! They look like fun chuckable bikes and there is a ton of tat I can throw at one. Just need the dealers to come back with a deal now really.

Well, sort of on my third . Long story, but the first one I had was my brother's one that I very kindly looked after till he passed his test. I had it a couple of years and liked it, so I bought a pre-registered 2005 one that went back to the shop after 200 miles with a fault that the shop couldn't find (turned out to be the carbs in the end). I was gutted, but they lent me a 2007 hornet whilst it was in the workshop and I liked it so ended up swapping it for the one I have now I'm pretty sure a PC can cure the FI glitches but I'm not that bothered TBH - it doesn't spoil my fun at all

Mine's a silver one so I got a colour matched hugger for it, and that's about it. You can buy all sorts of stuff for them They sound pretty good as standard, but I am tempted by a louder can. Check out the Hornet's Nest website too if you want any more details about them!

Cheers

Amanda

Almost got a deal sorted, do I go ABS or None ABS? I quite like the idea as it sounds safe. Anyone got any experience of honda ABS?

Cool Well, mine's the non-ABS one and they work well, but I had a CBF600S (proper ugly thing it was too...) as a loaner and that was the ABS one and they felt pretty similar TBH, but never had to use the ABS 'in anger' as it were so can't really advise on that. Whe I picked mine, I just thought that the extra money could go on shiny bits instead so went non-ABS

I think i'll go for ABS if I can (getting old). Just waiting for a man to ring me back and do a deal so fingers crossed. Then I have the challenge of stripping and cleaning the beast! Having sat on every middle weight in the north east yesterday my current bike now feels absolutely massive. Hornet is 50 KILOS LIGHTER! Which blingy bits have you added? There seems to be loads! I think the Huggers, Bellypans and radiator plastics look nice and the little screen things.

Yeah, they are very small, light bikes but surprisingly stable. It always seems well balanced somehow. Makes it easier to chuck it about for longer too I've not added too much to mine - I've just got a colour-matched hugger, Beowulf rad guard and shorty Titax (I think) levers cos I've only got stumpy little hands and needed the adjustment. When I bought it, they tempted me with the parts catalogue but I had to say stop before my overdraft went pop

I had an ex Honda Cup bike with a few trick bits on it and Im with YC on this one, the engine is bland even with different sprockets to speed up acceleration. Wheelied ok though!!

The handling was quite good for what it was but it did have aftermarket rear ohlins and the front forks had Ohlins internals so we aint comparing like with like.

The tank range was very poor especially during spirited riding, the gearbox wasn't smooth, clutch snatchy too.

So even with a 19 litre tank, range was poor! To be honest i'm no lunatic, i'm sure it'll be fine. Has more power to weight than my current steed, they've thrown in a scorpion end can so i'm waiting to hear back from honda finance, Who I can imagine are very strict.

My current gearbox is the clunkiest i've had and suspension is terrible so i imagine it'll be fine. Are the forks expensive to mod? did yours have ohlins springs or extra stuff?

Is that an older model hornet though? I consistently get ~150 miles to a tank on mine and that's with a combination of commuting and longer 'fun' rides. The older one had a tiny tank and would only do ~90 miles on similar trips though.

It must be the older hornet, no way could I empty a 19 litre tank in 90 miles. Maybe 90 miles to reserve if you were thrashing it. Its the ne wone i'm after. Amanda do you get 150 to reserve or is that average including hunting for a garage?
