but mealy mouthed words cannot hide the fact that the party he now leads got us into the various messes alluded to above. The Labour government before this one bankrupted the country and so has the last one.

So I could not care less who got the job of leading the Labour party. No, that's not true, I consider David Milliband a malevolent force only slightly less poisonous than Mandelson, so perhaps I'm glad it wasn't him. Now I've said that, I wonder if his brother is cast in a similar mould, only we haven't seen enough of him yet to see it?

I just hope they never get power again, we just cannot afford them!

In an interview last night he said, quite rightly, that if he stays in the limelight the media will pick on every word and bit of body language as some kind of brotherly rift or pact depending on the hue of the paper. The brothers have similarities but have some strongly differing political opinions, which although can be appropriate in a Cabinet, in their case won't be seen as healthy. He cannot and will not be a 'yes man' but anything else in his position will be slated.

This I agree with.

Maybe he will take the Labour Party back closer to its roots - the clue is in the name. The country needs an alternative view to stimulate debate and keep the govt on its toes. And he's not tarred with a discredited brush regarding Iraq and the economy. He's right to mock the "no more boom and bust" rhetoric.

Having said that, it will be a long time before I vote Labour again.
