This is true as far as the highway code goes. However on the road in practice it's a little different.

I don't use my engine to get others to move out of the way - in fact, I was indicating the opposite - I occasionally use my engine to ensure I'm noticed without getting the other driver to move or take any action at all, save noticing that i'm there. I don't mean that I use it aggressively or bounce it off the rev limiter. Sometimes when filtering on motorways I keep the engine in a lower gear than I otherwise would and this is for 2 reasons - instant engine braking and a bit more noise. However I generally ride in as high a gear as is practicable anyway for economy reasons and therefore I may just be doing what is "normal" to a different rider.

I have occasionally used my engine when I should have used my horn. It was literally the first thing that occurred to me when a car started to "invade my space" - again usually when filtering. Just a split second faster than reaching for the horn button imho.

And my cruiser has a stock can and sounds like a sewing machine and it's a Honda - so no it wasn't me. It would also struggle to overtake a 125...

Glad you stayed in control and on the bike, what an idiot. I got put off for quite a while when on first ride up the twisty's to alston by two gixxer boys who just appeared from nowhere and then one undertook me on a right hander followed by his mate who overtook at the same time so one either side of me! frightened the s**t out of me.

But it gets you noticed. Isn't that the point?

But I don't agree with intimidation of any sort on the road or elsewhere.

Ah nice! Not surprised, I'd probably have to pull over and take 10mins out lol

Just my reasoning but to rev -blib-the throttle you have to have the clutch in or you would shooting forward and your right hand is manipulating the throttle

Horn--move thumb but still have both hands available for clutch, brake or throttle whether you may need to brake or accelerate out of trouble. Tooting a horn only means one thing--I AM HERE--it is not an instruction for you to do anything but make you aware of the other vehicles presence.

Each to his own.

This tractor riding inbred c*cksmoker could see full well she was there and still decided to bully his way through a gap that wasn't there despite there being a perfectly safe overtaking opportunity less than 5 seconds in front.

Use of the horn in this situation would be to admonish another road user for their behaviour which the highway code specifically forbids.

The common theme here is that there was a total lack of respect for a Learner Riders Safety , something that , as you can see , has not promoted a sense of good will . Now with all the hindsight in the world it is quite easy to say "should have done this" . I had exactly the same experience myself a couple of weeks ago with the added Bonus of a car on a side road waiting to join the carriageway and also coming out of a bend . I agree that the roadcraft of some riders is less than fantastic but there is at least one good thing to have come out of this and that is some sort of experience Maria ...... not the best I grant you , but a survived experience that has ingrained itself in your mind .

Now , I may have mentioned this over the weekend (so many bike stories and so much "Woo-Woo" consumed) but when I do an overtake I do it in a manner that puts no danger to others and I can spend a fair bit of time in factoring in my arrival before I actually commit myself ...... my main point being is I consider others well before I consider myself , When I finish that overtake I also slot in to the left to allow anyone else that has followed me to slot in on my right in case they Gnarls it up due to a rather fast approaching Audi in the opposite direction .

Now you have been on many rideouts with some rather pleasant folk who generally like to get on well and from time to time may have some hairy (and sometimes Woolly) moments . Now I saw something back there in one of your replies Maria and it showed something that took me a long time to learn . My inital response is anger , followed by some choice words along the lines of "hunting you down and doing some unpleasantries to you and your Mother" when this sort of thing happens but you replied with something that made a hell of a lot of sense ............... that is to get over the initial shock and then let it go . Concentrate on the job at hand in the meantime which is to make sure you are fine . LOOK AFTER NUMBER ONE . Adrenaline will surge and that sharpens the senses a shed load , that is to keep you alert for more Danger that is imminent .... and trust me , don`t waste that time in retaliation (not that you did , just some general advice) stay alert , keep on the ball and make sure you are fine and be safe .

Even to this day it is Human nature to want to persue and do nasties ......... takes a strong mind to take a deep breathe and let it go and eyeball the area around you to make sure there is no further danger . Then you can hunt them down on the internet when you get home

He was probably on his way to a very important board meeting? Aren't cruisers ridden by rich business men who like to wear leather chaps and tassles these days? Isn't "cruising" what got George Micheal in trouble on Hamstead Heath????lol. What a "male hen"!

YC,as you seem to have been aware of what was happening how come you didn't do your knight in shining armour bit and stick up for the fair maiden? She said she couldn't catch him but you could have and had words with him. No point in commenting on my opinions it wasn't me who upset MYC

The whole gist of my responses has been that, intimidating by what ever means is not a wise thing to do,but hey-ho people do it
Lets rev the engine at them ,lets blow the horn at them ,lets break the wing mirror off, lets kick the door, then pi55 off------------all things you read on here.
Speaking to the person might have been the answer if they are unaware of what they have done,on the other hand if it was blatantly deliberate report them to the police, there were two of you so statement and witness.

beep your horn, blip your throttle or whatever, i think the bottom line is that you overtake when its safe to do so. the guys just an out an out to55er.
i personaly wouldn't move over to allow someone an easier passage when overtaking. let them perform a legit manouver and should something go wrong you'll have some room to play with.
but most of all, keep truckin' myc.
