I use mine on the A12 commute and general range is 150+miles so you need to look at what rpm your doing . And its general state of tune.when's the last ime you serviced it

I have now started using the motorway everyday to commute to Uni and i get 150miles before my fuel light comes on, with i reckon about another 25 miles left before i really need fuel.

iv done the run in to work (18 miles) with the light on from when I got in(petrols cheaper in Colchester). so it should give you plenty of warning when the light starts to flash.

Probably something wrong with it then, IMO.

Considering you work in London perhaps you would go just as fast up a gear with a few less revs. Nobody is ever going to get good mileage opening to full throttle.

i dont know how it adds up but on one tank (curvy) my record is 183 miles before it deciding to cough to a starved halt. mind, my fuel light sensor wasnt working so it cant say it was deliberate

Went to see me daughter in Aberystwyth yesterday on the bike, round trip of about 300 miles, about 120 on motorway at 80 and about 180 miles on A roads (M66/ M60/M62/M6/M56, Ruthin,Bala, Dolgellau,Machynleth, Aber) .. filled up at 175 miles on the odo, no fuel light on (but it was on before I set off so I know it works !!) and it took 11.8 ltrs
--> this adds up to about 62.5 mpg mostly spent at between 5 - 6000 rpm
Bike is 13 years old with 26000 on the clock .

..... mind you me ar$e was sore after 300 miles !!! Gel seat required ...

I posted something simillar to this topic on the Bandit 1200 forum(my previous bike) and jeez i got shot down and ridiculed! I was just curious as to what others got(i was averaging 50-ish mpg on the 1200 bandit k1) and got dissed by most of the members who replied stuff like ' fgs, stop worrying about mpg, just use it' blah blah.
Good to see that u guys are alot more helpful and intellectual! I traded that bike in against my new sv650s btw!
I can't post accurate info on mine as its being run-in still, but i seem to have reserve light flashing at me around 135-138miles. Mpg figures have gone 58, 54 and 52 as the miles/speed has increased. Tho the run-in procedure of no constant throttle/cruising etc is probably the worst thing for mpg! Still, i love reading what u guys are able to get(almost 70mpg is impressive!).

SV's (650) Make brilliant commuter bikes as well as being fun round the twisties(with the suspension tweaked)
were MPG is important.
