Dave for PM I say.
That would get my vote 100%

Just to show Im not actually related to Hitler or Sadam, here's my compashionate reasonable side showing through:
I'd subsidise that with a "cnut card" which allows for £1200 per annum for replacement white goods, school books/stationary etc.
It would be in the form of a DEBIT card, which is credited with £100 per month when you attend your monthly "life class" It would be accepted nationwide in all forms of retail. THat way If you spend it on booze then the washer blows up, tough shizzle my dizzle washing is to be done in the sink for the remainder of the month until your next credited.

Commit any offence, no matter how minor and your following months credit is revoked. By contrast should you go 3 months without spending a penny on it awesome go buy yourself a week in Wales.

FYI "CNUT" is: "Credit Nationals Under Tuition"... what else could it mean ?

Don't get me wrong, people who are able to work who are just lazy f++++ers should be given mandatory jobs whether they like them or not, until they find something better. This guy was supporting his 'large' family reasonably well before he lost his job and he absolutely adores his kids. The house and the space around it is a tip though, however it gets a bit tidier every year as the kids get older and are becoming aware of their situation.

13 Kids and wanting more.. that's was the documentary, there are some clips on you tube.

The problem you have is that you don't have 'internet' credits on your card.

For example. Your wife can clarify this. The internet is vital for your kids homework...internet access isn't seen as a luxury anymore, apparently it is vital according to my sons teachers at least.....much to my annoyance, as I do not allow my kids internet access!

See how many of those teenagers in Raymonds house, using vital broadband...... hypothetically there may be no local library, as they are all closing due to lack of funding, so its vital for their education to have it

Food should be provided as Vouchers, preferably in partnership with Tesco/Asda/Morrisons and be restricted to certain catagories/ranges.

Get Jamie Oliver to come up with recipe cards, so you can order "shepherds pie for 4" and you get potatoes. mince, carrots, onion and the instructions on making it into said shepherds pie. Might not be as cheap as could be done if 4 portions of ready-meal were just sent out, but the home-made is going to be better for you and more nutritious. So people can shop from a menu and get the relevant ingredients.

Clothing, vouchers again - Primark will do.

No provision for Tobacco or Alcohol.
Was there not something in the press a few years ago where somebody who has a say in the world said that 'smoking is one of the few pleasure the unemployed/poor' have so we should not take that away from them?
Crazy...

School library will have broadband, they can use that.
If the school doesnt allow internet access to students then its an unreasonable request to base thier teachings arround it.

If that be the case like it or not then the kids would have to use the public library instead.
Again its just need v's desire.

I heard that. Rubbish argument! £2000/year, or however much it costs to smoke 20/day can buy you a whole lot of pleasures.

The point is, Raymond in the article is bemoaning the fact that eight people may have to choose between heating and eating, which is simply not the case. They may have to choose between smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating/heating which is not the same thing at all. These are vices, and it chaps my hide that people can see not having these as some sort of poverty.

Incredible really the way the word poverty has been *******ised- Raymond should read "the road to Wigan pier" by Orwell.

I assume you mean this guy?

Watching the bit between 1:25 and 2:50 is brilliant.
His "Im the victim" bit in perticular made me laugh.
The guy is clearly intelligent but he's blaming socitey for his failing to gain employment.
BS he's applied for jobs at the council etc they CANNOT discriminate, if he was able to proove they did he'd be a very rich man thats for sure.

Instead of doing the necessary to get employed he instead writes articles which in doing so alienates himself.

If he stopped thinking he was so damn smart and actually tried to play the game he'd be a great asset to society, its a real shame because with those qualifications I'd imagine he's make a great lecuturer at a university.

+1

If I had kids I would be sending notes back regularly saying that their homework had not been done due to me not having had time to supervise them on the internet.

And this comes from a guy that earns his living from an Online Maths Tutoring service.
