As I eluded to in my first post and others have expanded on...the breeds involved here are NOT good breeds to be crossing from.
Let's take Dachshund. They are prone to severe back problems, paralysis of the hind legs, knee cap disclocation, blindness and deafness with bad breeding and a whole host of other things like cushings disease. Chihuahuas come with a hole host of their own issues as well. Most of us have seen really small dogs that seem to be constantly shaking, like they are suffering from parkinsons disease. They are not cold, they don't have parkinsons. They have Hydrocephalus (sp?) which is water on the brain. It is extremely painful and takes a lot of treatment and money to reduce the water and pain, but it is never going to be gone forever. They also are the one dog breed that has a skull that is not fully formed when they are born. They literally have a hole in the skull which doesn't fill itself in until the pup is about 6 months old. This means that they need very careful handling in the first 6 months. Not to mention that breeding is fraught with troubles with Chihuahuas...they need expert help with whelping and preparations made for C sections. I have gone onto a few trusted websites to get this information as whilst I knew what the problems were, I wanted to know I got it right so that you could understand that this isn't a case of me just trying to put you off by making it sound bad. It genuinely is a bad idea and no one on here wants to be a spoil sport, but these are the lives of your dogs and their puppies and your families that we are all thinking about. With this kind of breeding, the chances of stillbirths, major complications for the Dam, long term health issues for the puppies and heartbreak for you and your family are really high, so please know that while it may sound harsh to advise against it...it is only because I wouldn't wish that kind of stress on anyone! |

Booking appointment to get the bitch done, sod this.
At the risk of sounding like a tw4t I thought it was as simple as male humps female, result some cute puppies and thats it. Fear not org, I shall not let me dogs copulate. Thanks for all the advice people. We are clearly as clueless as the dogs about this so I'd rather not risk it. |

Yes she will. She will have no reproductive organs left so no more seasons!
It is always good to neuter dogs as well as even if you forget about the risk of unwanted puppies...intact dogs have a higher risk of developing cancer so it is good to get them done too. Good on ya, great decision ![]() |

Good decision, very responsible. Always good to get a bitch spayed as they can develop pyometra, a uterine infection. Don't agree on the cancer risk for dogs, my two are entire and staying that way, I'd reconsider if they had behavioural issues but the cancer risk is very low.

Just go to Amazon and buy a few of these. You can switch off the barking and they'll never pee on the carpet or chew the sofa.
