Is there nobody sorely tempted to slap the ar$e of wobbly lycra clad person on a pushbike, when they clearly know they are hogging a road?

I am, and several people have seen me gesture this 'hypothetical slap' as I approach them! That pert pink buttcheek is just ripe for a good smack.....purely to see if it wobbles like its owner.

No such thing, it was abolished by Winston Churchill

Its vehicle excise duty, and calculated on vehicles Co2 emissions.

Bicycles don't emit C02, although the rider probably does, but no ones calculated how much

http://ipayroadtax.com/

Paying for roads comes out of general taxation which I pay my more than my fair share

Semantics... boll*cks...

You could also apply that logic to the lack of a (very expensive!) licence... it all translates to the road needing some respect so if you're on a push iron and can't keep up then stay out of the f***ing way where possible! It's only polite!

Only on new cars.

And technically EVERYTHING comes out of general taxation (it all goes in one big pot), but without VED they wouldnt have enough IN the taxation to maintain the roads (apparently we don't even with it but thats another issue).

Being polite would be to give all road users the time and space, rather than using your way of thinking

Partially true, older vehicles VED is calculated differently to new vehicles, which changed in April 2010, but its still a tax on vehicles.

Yes, VED isn't bringing the same revenue as it used to,which is why Toll roads are the next thing. Time to get a helicopter

It's still bringing in more than the costs of motoring.

I read that site and some of those so called "costs", make incredible leaps to prove that motoring is subsidised, I mean they seem to be expecting anyone who doesnt drive to be running the same distance every day for a start and to be immaculately healthy until they die of something inexpensive.

Its a site with a heavy agenda and it'll bend any statistic to prove it. (which doesnt mean i think cyclists should pay VED, I reserve that position for horses.)
