Should have asked him to keep the SV for you and started taking lessons. Missed opportunity there.

Oh dear which one does he want to be Charlie or Ewan.

For Christmas get him a subscription to Ride magazine, some slippers & a pipe, and start saving for the Goldwing & trailer

Great bikes, I've had an '09 one and a DOHC '10 version. Far, far better bikes than my SV650S.

Obviously it's easy to take the pi55 out of other peoples motorcycles on an internet forum but I'll just stick to the facts. Enjoy the GS.

I see it's fitted with cylinder head guards which is a good thing, you'll need them 'cos it will go over sooner or later, although the SOHC ones are cheaper to replace than the DOHC ones. If he's thinking of getting onto the gnarly stuff, BarkBuster alloy handguards are a must too.
Been there, fell off.

Horses for courses Y-C ? Too right. That's why I bought a brand new Defender for my works van. Love it!

You are gonna be way more comfy on that . A lad in work has one as his daily commute , he does 90 miles a day to work and back . Even though he has a car he uses the Beemer more in the Winter . He`s very happy on it . I`m 6ft 2 and find those things really comfy , unfortunately I cannot justify owning one just to comfort alone ... it has to have a slightly Mental edge for me to enjoy it
