My elder sister always wanted this one, but it's a little bit out of her price range now. It was sold by DVLA and she didn't know it had been released for auction, otherwise she'd have been bidding on it for her Audi TTS.

He won't get it, they've never issued that combination of numbers and letters. In the past we've had letter/number formats as follows with up to three numbers on each except the final and current one:

X = any letter except I and in most cases O, Q and Z. Some letters are used to date the year of registration and are not randomly used
5 = any number between 1 and 999, except on current format dates the year of registration.

X5
5X
XX5
5XX
XXX5
5XXX
XXX5X
X5XXX
XX55XXX

It's a bit more complex than that with local authorities once issuing registrations and they weren't all controlled by DVLA at Swansea until the mid 70s, but this gives a basic outline of what you can get.

Out of curiosity I asked how much they would give me for mine and they offered me a £1000

Probably because the end letters can stand for loads of Scottish name initials

Got it all sorted today. Went to dvla and they did everything for me. Only cost 25 quid for the change of name. Some bloke has set up shop next door to the dvla printing plates so got them done straight away for 25. Then insurance thieves stung me 30 quid. Still its all sorted now
