Default Soldier Beheaded in London

The guard would have weapons for quick reaction and could fire accordingly if they feel that they or someone else is in imminent danger of death. Unfortunately this was outside camp and armed police are in a much better position to tackle it. By the time anyone would have got there, no-one was in immediate danger, so those rules of engagement no longer apply. The coppers only opened fire when they felt they were in immediate danger. The last thing you want is a load of incredibly ****ed off squaddies running around a "cosmopolitan" town with rifles...

By weapons, I mean rifles with full magazines of live rounds.

I would excuse any soldier who shot dead 2 men who he'd just witnessed slaughter another soldier. IMO that sends out EXACTLY the right message to like minded extremists.

Shoot to kill in that scenario, none of that preservation of life BS.

Nah. Send them to general population in Belmarsh. I'm sure 1 or 2 people in their would have a difference of opinion with them. That would be far more effective than shot dead.

I would excuse them too but the law would charge them with murder. Then it would be up to the jury and that would be a lottery

True, but all you would need is one of them to charge at you or raise a pistol in your direction, then, as you feel your life in genuinely in danger, you would be free to shoot at the perpetrator.

Or this one about a drunk squaddie bayoneting a 10-year-old Afghan boy:

Not that I'm anti-squaddie by any stretch of the imagination - (got friends in the Army) just think people need to keep this in perspective.
