There is an article in January Ride magazine about this although the victim was talking crap, IMHO.
She was 5 feet 10 and said that an SV was too heavy and she couldnt put her feet down. Well Im 5'6 on the short side and dont have a problem. there are many others I have seen with an SV who are lower to the ground than me :P This woman also chose a Triumph as the best beginner bike ![]() |

I went from a 100cc scooter to the SV and I have to admit I have had trouble with the weight of it. Gone down at low speeds twice in 2 months. But I've agreed to get more training before I take it out again.
Think carefully if you're weedy like me, as I find it really tough |

The SV is easy to ride - a lot more 'relaxed' than what you're used to, like getting into a big powerful car after you've been screaming around in an old mini - which is not to say you can't scream around on the SV if you want to ![]() You don't have to slam the throttle open & frantically change through the gears to get anywhere - one of the advantages of the V-twin engine is the torque - open the throttle in almost any gear and it will take off (sounds (and feels !) a bit like a tractor with a rocket up it's bum) but that is the difference between V-twins and IL4's - do that on an IL4 and you'll look silly as you really need to be in the correct gear at all times, which is a lot harder if you're starting out Take it easy for the first month or two, and you'll be fine - and by then the summer will be here and you'll be able to go on rideouts and learn from the more experienced members of the site - especially BigApe ![]() |
