Its a great forum to get advice and discuss things. It does bug me when people go on and state something without checking their facts and they are talking out of their @rse.

I can think of several occasions where I have seen someone state something as if its fact (rather than their suggestion) that was downright dangerous because they didn't have a clue. And then they get in a huff when they are corrected.

Just because someone has a high post count it doesn't mean they know what they are talking about!
Sorry, but telling someone that they can bend thier forks back "With two guys and lots of straining" is as you put it, stating something without checking facts, and talking out of your a$$, and again as you put it, downright dangerous... had this advice been taken this could have had a very nasty consequence...

A more shocking one would be: 'Blue ones are faster'

Yep, I apologised as I mixed up my words with twisted forks rather than bent forks and was put right by BillyC. As I said, I try and give an opinion rather than stating the facts and I do this but rarely as I don't feel six months of riding a bike gives me the right to tell people what to do. As I had had an accident a few days before the guys posted that thread and managed to ride afterwards with twisted forks etc I was trying to be helpful.

I believe this thread refers to people who frequently give poor advice?

To be fair, we did clear this up very quickly. It simply required a bit of clarification, and there was never enough information to be considered as advising someone exactly how to straighten their forks.

I don't know if Simon was referring to a specific post, from a specific person; but I share his concern about vague advice coming from all directions when someone posts a question. I think it's a concern for both the Tuning & Tweaking, and Talk & Issues sections of this site.

However, Greg's point that everyone is effectively responsible for what they do to their own motorcycle is also highly relevant. If in doubt, leave it to the professionals. Saving a few £'s to risk your life and limbs isn't good economics!

i was mearly taking point of your post when you said you hate it when people give advice with out checking the facts first... even then, bending forks back into place is still very risky and should only been done by a garage, as it could weaken them...

This is your opinion though, perhaps it was done by two very experienced bikers who knew what they were doing.

However there are one or two people (okay just the one then) that really winds me up as they'll post a comment on anything that moves pretending to be all knowledgable but being so new to biking and lacking common sense spout nothing but foolish nonsense (and I'm not naming them it could be unlucky).

The other point is that there is always more than one way of doing things and several opinions often shed more light on a subject than just the one.

So let's talk, discuss and opinionate but sensibly and with aforethought.

.
Come on then, who is this person? lets out the fraud... lol

"lol" noted, but I don't think would be helpful.

The person in question might get the hump, clear off and go to another Forum instead. Do we really want that on our consciences?*
