Doh... I must be soft cos I seem to be the only one wi a lil sympathy for the guy. Yeah he's bin a n*b, but he's had a big lesson and trashed his bike! If I knew the bloke rode under the influence habitually, then he deserves far worse. He's bin lucky... The only one hurt was himself.
Nobody ever admits to it because it's socially unacceptable, but it suprises me how many bikes are parked up outside pubs... Personally I realise I have zero tollerance to beer so I don't participate, and in my mind a skinful on a saturday and a sunday morning blat is irresponsible also... But lots do it!
I'd of dithered a fair bit, but yeah... You've done what's fair n just all said!

The bike used to be a Kawazaki ZZR (I think) and his gloves were in his back pack.

I would have probably gone off at him at the roadside. After all, he's just smashed himself up, he's not likely to have a go And if it did turn out that he was definately ****ed, then I'd get the law in.

Though having said that, when I was just starting out I helped a guy who'd binned a Bandit 6 on a perfectly flat, straight road and it never occurred to me to see if he was drinking. So maybe I wouldn't.

I wonder if you would have still been so philosophical or sympathetic had he been in front of you when he binned it and took you out in the process.

He made the choice to drink and drive ( ride ) - no excuse, deserves what he gets. At least nobody else was hurt

Well done for your responsible actions Si, and glad you didn't come a cropper too. You were both lucky not to get run over on that road at that time of night.

I never used to touch a drop if I was riding, and would even take it very easy the night before if I was rising in the morning, and have always done the same in the car.

If you're in an accidenct, figuring out if the person who caused it is straight is always a good move, and call the police if you're suspicious (along with getting as many witnesses as you can, asking for proof of ID if you're exchanging details, etc). Carry a mental list of checkpoints so you've covered everything if the worst happens.

No it shouldn't, and there are very good reasons why this isn't the case.

Nice one Mr Ape

Agree with you completely. Though we've only recently had this discussion, and a heated one it was (but they're the best ).
