Er...yes...I'm sure the RG was the best available but if you look at it today it's truly amazing that such things could be done. The tyres and brakes look like they have been taken off a bmx.

I can buy gear for my SV that is light years ahead of the stuff that Sheene used...The latest GSX-R1000 is probably better than Sheene's bike...You could win the GP's while still carrying your tax disc

You must also remember that Sheene was popular enough to move away from biking to other things. Advertising Brut and all that A household name. Foggy is still a niche biking thing.

Anyhoo, what is happening to Carlos Checa? Poor sod...rides the wheels off a motorcycle to the best of his ability and still gets the chop. I hope he gets a decent ride.

The Basket....Carlos did test on the Camel Honda although binned it after about half a dozen laps. He is caught up with politics I am afraid. He does bring a lot of sponsorship with him but not sure if he is the way forward for any team.
Dont get me wrong, when on form he is still a hot rider, but not likely to deliver any great results consistantly. He is also a very likeable guy too.

He does talk a lot of rubbish, however how much of that article in MCN was edited that way to make him sound like that ? We all know what MCN is like....

He is also opinionated and arrogant IMHO, but again thats who he is and thats IMHO what made him a winner.

Hes certainly a character and I think thats what motorsport needs, more foggy's and Rossi's and more Bazza's ( RIP ) more being honest and less PR speak.

On an aside, somebody said about Sheenes RG seizing at Daytona, I am sure I watched a program where the reconstructed that accident and proved that it was caused by the rear tyre delaminating due to the stress caused by the speed on the banking, you can see the tyre coming apart in the slow mo pictures, and that the tyre delaminated and went out of shape and locked the back wheel up by jaming up against the rear swing arm. I might be wrong of course

i think your right, MICK DOOHAN is the quiet type and very well spoken and he's just blended into the background of the honda garage no one really talks about him anymore and he was unbeatable at one time.

Checa...ended his GP career on a high at least. Oulton park next
Biaggi....ohhhhh dear.
Odd that Gibernau gets his rewards yet has a terrible season....If he wins a carrot on the new Duke, I'll eat my lunch.
Such is life.

The Basket.....catastrophic as his season was as far as race results go there were a lot of plusses for him.Let's not forget that his bike has never been a full spec factory bike and has consistantly shown the HRC boys how to go fast on one. Honda have have used his devlopment input which they have accepted has been of great value.
However when Sete sat down with Mr.HRC and requested a full spec bike for 2006 this was refused! it would appear they dont want to see a satellit team beating their own main riders yet again,2004?) As the offer was not forthcoming,Sete had obviously already been talking to Ducati and later that day flew to Bologna for meetings!
Sete will not win the championship next year but he will I think be in the top 5 which will be the tightest grouping for some time.

I think if Checa had not got injured early in the season,he would have delivered even more for Ducati this year. That and his average form early on meant they were never going to retain him. He can still gather points in Moto GP but he's not really a winner.

Max Biaggi at the moment seems to be a case of "you reap what you sew" he has been very disrespectfull to Honda and we must not forget that they have a very traditional view with regards to manners and protocol. I love Max's tidy riding style but again he has had long enough on RCV's to deliver and simply hasn't. the end of a great career though?

The biggest concern for me is the situation regarding Rossi and the battle created over the Gauloise sponsorship...this is still rolling and appears to be fuelled by him having nothing but his own interests in mind. I dont like this situation at all. Beginning to get a little too big for his boots?

It is possible that Rossi is thinking about getting out of Moto GP and bust ups over sponsors would be a pretext for his long trumpeded move to F1.
That's my conspiracy theory for today.

Don't think so...Rossi is oh so powerful and can do what he wants when he wants.

No point having power without a few swings of the sword.

Anyhoo I think the change to 800cc is stupid and pointless. The best way to reduce power would be a very limited Fuel Tank. Cheap too...no new engines. I'm sure an 800cc bike can go just as fast.
