When I worked shifts. I used to push my bike round the corner and let it freewheel so I wouldnt disturb my neighbours when I started it up.

That's what Paul does at 7am... wheels it out into the alley then coasts it 100 yards till he gets to the road before starting it up. Not just for the neighbours but for the children as well. My neighbour uses it as her alarm clock!

Loud cans are anti-social but I think you can still show courtesous behaviour even with loud cans. I think Carrot-Cruncher has been a bit hard done by - 9am - has she drugged her kids or where thet on the beer all night - they should be up by then!

I don't like running my engine on the lean (sidestand) anyway when cold for any period of time. So I usually wheel the bike down the drive and start it on the road and just ride off after a few seconds keeping the revs low. I still get complaints from my neighbour though. She's in her 60's and lives with her mum! She is always complaining that she doesn't get to hear the bike enough and always likes me to give it a handful (her dad had a bike so she has fond memories). Nicer neighbours you couldn't meet.

I leave for work @ 06:15 am.

I had a polite letter from one of my neighbours stating that I wake up their kids. - then the kids wake up them

I replaced my Remus GP with a remus Revolution to show my good intentions.

But it makes the same noise

I tend to agree that you've got to get along with the folks you live around and a bit of consideration goes a long way. Isn't it the case now that most modern bikes don't need the standard "warm up" as long as you don't scream the bike til it's warm?

Personally, the only thing that wakes me up during the small hours is the screeching mating foxes in the local wasteland. A louder thing I have not heard and I'm 18 storeys up!!

No one has mentioned it here. If anyone ever does I'll point out that their teenager's cages with drilled exhausts are considerably louder and at more antisocial times than my bike at tickover.

Ha, that will pale in comparison to the noises made when Valley Boy is up on 1000 Sheep Road.

Don't want to steal your thunder on this one chap...

But get a load of this. (Slight change to subject, but still on about Neighbours)

Went out with Mrs Mass on Friday last, to "Folly Farm" (which is excellent BTW for kids up to the age of about 7 ish)

Spent the whole day there, and got back pretty late, as I'm driving the car up to the drive, I notice the nice boulders and enbankment at the side of our path has been sort of "MOSHED" over by what could only have been a huge truck! Soil everywhere, tyre tracks all the way up the driveway.
To which I think "You cheeky F****er"!!
This comes after I have lashed out shed loads of money for a builder to build me a new wall 42ft long and 6ft high, which is about 1ft away from where this truck decided to drive over the bank of soil.

So Mrs Mass goes over to see our new neighbours, and politely asks them have they had a delivery today ro summat?
To which they reply yes, they have had their septic tank emptied
Ahhhaa...I thought, it's gotta be that plum then!

So Mrs Mass gets on the phone to said septic tank boys.

"Oh yeah" the girl on the end of the phone said.
"yeah the driver was told by your neighbour that it wasn't your property, and in fact, he was stood their when he told him to drive up the bank"

WTF!!!!!!

Mate, that's the kind of neighbours you get in Wales ...it's a nice place...honest!

My neighbours don't hear my bike in the morning....my mum's do though Go in house and turn alarm off, roll bike out and go put alarm back on. Then start it on choke while i put my lid and gloves on and set off steadily.

The big problem is at work

I was sent this email a bit ago:

Quote:
Could I please ask those staff who park their motorbikes/scooters at the front of Central Offices, that you kindly refrain from revving the engine when you are preparing to leave. This will hopefully reduce the level of disturbance, both in terms of the noise and also, when the windows are open, from the smell of exhaust fumes coming into the building.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Seen as i'm the only one with an aftermarket can ( Baffleless Blueflame Evo Dualie ) and there were no complaints before i came back to the office instead of at the depot, then it's obviously aimed at me.

Now i arrive at 8 - 8.20 in the morning and she doesn't get here till 9am. I leave at 4-6pm and she leaves at 5pm. at most i'm outside the office with it ticking over for 30-60 secs while i put my lid on. so she might hear it for 2 minutes tops a day. Our office is above the only bike bays in Barnsley where anything from 10 - 30 bikes park daily. yet she's oblivious to them .

Needless to say i aggravate her as much as possible by bouncing it off the redline right under her window.....much to the amusement of her co-workers
