Baph - if you are passing me let me know, if I am not at work I will make you that cuppa no worries !!
To be honest if you are going to be jumping on the SV after you pass, the 125 could be a mis-step.

I got the 125 becasue after my DAS I was hooked on riding - didn't want to be back on the bus/train to work again.

It will give you confidence on the road, and on riding, especially cornering, but you will notice a difference when you go up to the big bike.

Dont know if that helps - feel free to ask questions on my experiences etc, might be better/make more sense than me monologuing

Thanks David I was just thinking if I could borrow a 125 inbetween now and test date that would be good. Paying to hire one may be cheaper than taking extra lessons.

Baph - if you go from Uni up past RAF into town on A34 the chippie is on left then Antelope is on right, only road with "D" in near is John Donne Street. Am I going the right way??

Anyway I am very close and dont worry about making an a**e of yourself, I can't go in Chigaco Rock as it has stairs, I have gravity problem when drunk and am highly amusing.

London hire prices were about £160/week (scary)

I was lucky and found a 2nd hand CG125 for £300 - it has its issues, but lasted me 2 weeks - still in the garage, going to get it a bit tidied up then hopefully the mrs will do her CBT (save wear n the SV Pillion Seat :P )

My journey home last night was interesting.

I made a concious decision that I was going tto get some stuff sorted out.

1st thing was U-turns.

I had been advised that I should'nt think aboiut doing my test on the SV as it doesn't turn as quickly as some other bikes. Subsequently I have had this belief that it would do a U-turn like a bus.

So finding a quiet side street ( I was also checking out a house that was for sale, so was off the beaten track a bit, I made myself do a U-turn, I guess now I was not afraid of dropping it, but no need for that as I got the bike around with no real issues.

So another U-turn or two and thats that "myth" I had concocted for myself sealt with.

From there it was quite simple/painless to tackle my wide cornering, thinking back over my training found that I was not really looking at where I wanted to be, and I was trying to keep the bike far too upright, so adjusting how I cornered worked, although I would be the first to admit I am still not anywhere near perfect.

SO my day swung from being down ofer the drop, to being about as positive as I have been, if not more so.

My advice - dont be afraid of the bike, or the things that you feel you cant do - fimd those demons and tackle them.

Hope this helps

David

Not quite so, if you lock the rear then release & re-apply the brakes, that's fine for a pass. You managed to control the skid, therefore showed skill on the bike. No real need to be so paranoid.

Shelly, I've just looked it up on google maps Down Weston Rd from the Uni past the hospital, the chippy I was thinking of was "Weston Road Chip Shop" I think, and all I can remember about the pub is it had black signs, and an open coal fire. Anyway, t'was Dartmouth Street I lived on back then, so only a hop skip & stolen trolley away from the supermarket.

Also, by the looks, I **WILL** be at the NEC bike show 28th Oct, but I'll post in the rideout's section in case anyone fancies a ride/drink (non-alcoholic officer!)
