I have hot-grips, as some others have experienced, they are rubbish, wouldn't recommend them. Not had any 'failures' they just don't supply any real heat!! Better than nothing at all, but only just!!!

There are more powerful brands out there!! I am surprised how much positive stuff has been said and they are keeping peoples hands toasty?! Perhaps I just got a weak set of grips?

My hotgrips worked really well on my last bike, now missing them alot on the new bike!!

My gloves are cheap Frank Thomas H2O ones so maybe let more of the glove heat through than some of the mega insulated winter gloves.

Blue - Liz has got hot grips on her K5. I had to turn the damn things off they were burning my hands.

IIRC I read ages ago that the SVS needs a different model of Hot Grip, something to do with the clipon's not being a good conductor ( I think they are aluminium or something like that ) and needing a high watt version of the hot grip in order to get good heat. I'm wandering if this is why you dont find that they work properly.

I might of course be talking rubbish, but I'm sure I rememeber other people having similar problems and Oxford swapped their hot grips for a different version which fixed the problem.

You are not.

The problems was with Aluminium bars in general. The aluminium was basically acting as a heat sink and the first ones couldn't keep up.

I think Oxford are now on MarkIII or MarkIV on the heated grips.

Bluey maybe, you had the old stock which didn't work well with Aluminium bars.

Cheers
Ben

Mine are the latest ones, and they're still not as hot as I'd like on a really cold day. But that's not to say they're not pretty hot, to be fair

I bought mine about 9 months ago (so say max of 2yrs old including shelf time?!?) … when did they make this change??

I have actually bypassed my control box now to try and up the heat a little … but even effectively direct to the battery they are still not up to much!!

Hot grips and bar muffs.. Mmm toasty.

Currently only have bar muffs and have had to take them off until I can fabricate some kind of lever guard. They're fine in town but out of town as they are material and have no support structure they try to interfere with the levers at *ahem* reasonable speeds.

Will see how I go....

Drill holes in them to reduce the drag perhaps?

Default muffs??

I fitted oxford hotgrips to my sv a couple of years ago but they didnt seem to warm up too much. Oxford sent me a replacement pair and a letter saying they had had a few sv owners get in touch with the same problem. They said it was to do with the alloy bars, although I cant see how that could affect the throttle grip as it sits on a plastic sleeve.
ANYWAY!..
In the end I fitted hot hands( the wrap around ones) and they are flippin' hot so no worries there. I know they look a bit naff but ever considered Oxford muffs? Once you have ridden with them and heated grips on a really cold morning you'll wonder why more people dont use them! and of course you can take them off again in the summer.
