RE MSN

I find it surprising but we we use it extensively at work. We are a group of techies/managers that can be anywhere in the world or at home etc. For that quick message it is great, even leave it switched on in meetings etc. you don't need to start messing about trying to find out who is where, can they be interrupted, what is their mobile number etc.

However the best and most underused MS freeby has to be net meeting. No not for cheap and nasty video conferencing. but for application sharing.

I had a woman in paris yesterday showing me how an application was generating an error. I didn't know anything about the app. but she was able to share her browser and talk her way through the app as I was see it being run on my screen.

We have also used it in conjunction with proper video conferences. Where we would share a power point presentation in the states, each site then has a projector linked to their local PC and the one guy then talks both the uk and us folks though a single presentation. all delegates could talk amongst themselves through the normal video conferencing technique. Yes see a decent proper powerpoint display at the same time.

Yea, MSN is good for that stuff. I've helped out a few people using MSN in that way, and people can show me work they have done aswell - sometimes file sharing takes too long!

Agreed, use it a lot with colleagues in other countries to resolve problems. We have a similar 'secure' system to access customer systems to help resolve issues. Bit pants on dial-up though! (only recently got ADSL in our village and I work from home)
