i don't think that someone who truely cares about you would ask you to give up something that means as much to you as riding bikes does to most of us (the exception being possibly if you've had a v serious crash and it upsets/worries your other 1/2 if you keep riding)

the closest i've ever come to a 'me or the bike' situation was just after i'd met Etienne when he was going to have to move back to SA for visa reasons. It was a case of take his bike back with him or sell it and take me back instead. I never asked him to do so, but he did offer to sell, which was enough for me to know that i came 1st (although probably only just!) - but in the end we got around it and he didn't have to

When I 30 I bought myself a bike as a birthday pressie, my girlfriend at the time said it had to go and gave me an ultimatum. It was her or the bike. I still wonder what happened to her...

My wife is not keen on "the thing" but accepts it as part of my character, I once gave up voluntarily, sold the bike to raise cash for house deposit. Took me 16 years to get another, all the time wishing and wanting, always looking. I don't think the choice would arise, but I would decide wife (and kids).

I don't think that question will ever be asked of me though. At least so long as I don't end up back in intensive care on a life support again.

But if she asked me to stop riding, I would.
Same here, but bev didn't ask me to when i had an accident 20 years ago, but we agreed that i would stop riding until the kids were older, Nic was 1 yr old at the time, Francesca was just a twinkle in my eye, started riding again when Fran was 9, and Bev comes on the pillion and so do the kids, perhaps thats why we are still married after 25 years, neither of us would ever issue such an ultimatum.

Daryl.

I doubt my wife would ask me to stop - she knows that I can make my own decision even though she's not 100% happy about biking, due to previous accidents (me getting knocked off and her knocking other bikers off). If she wanted me to then I would, though there would be a very good reason.
