When I was younger, I was enjoying being pillion to one of my parent's friends on a warm summer day on his Yamaha Radian. We were thundering along some B-roads in Devon when we came up behind an old BMW bike. Paul, my parent's friend, is a very courteous rider and didn't overtake. We followed the BMW for a few miles, he was riding in a very upright stance, and hardly lent at all- although he was making good progress.

After a little while the road widened and became a two lane junction. The lights turned red and both us and the BMW rider pulled up in good time in the right hand lane, next to a line of traffic. As we stopped I kept my eyes on the BMW rider as I had imagined him to be a very good driver, being able to go at a good speed without leaning the bike.

To my utter disbelief as he stopped he didn't put even one leg down, just kept them on the pegs. I was amazed when he gracefully toppled to the left, seemingly not realising as he still had his feet on the pegs. He crashed down still in the riding position. We rushed over to help, somewhat amazed at his display. We helped the poor guy up, he looked confused and then looked at his bike. Then he muttered angrily to himself ‘bloody sidecar’s missing’.

Turns out he had just divorced his wife, and had taken off the sidecar which had been present for the past 10 years. He had completely forgotten about it not being there, and had been a bit wrapped up over the past few miles by keeping a sportily driven Yamaha at bay!

Ok, I was going to keep this to myself but here goes. The other night on the way home in the sleet I pulled up at some lights next to a CBR600F after following him for a couple of miles. We exchanged pleasantries and I asked about his bike as I wanted one as my next bike. After some chatting the lights went yellow so I gave the curtious nod and went to pull away. As I did I stalled it, grabbed the clutch, started it, dumped the clutch and then veered to the left almost loosing it and cutting the poor CBR up in the process. F###ing embarrassing!

So if you're the CBR rider...... Sorry mate!

1# Not going round a roundabout whilst in full view of approx 25-30 .org members whilst on a ride out.

2# Arriving at a set of Traffic lights on a very busy High Street with alot of noise. You "HAVE" to use large blips of throttle for downshifting it's the law you know. I'm in full "Look At Me" mode in my dark blue jeans, retro leather jacket, blacked out visor and the Ultimate in coolness of British Motorcycle Muscle which is, the really Shiny Yellow Triumph Daytona 955i. "I look the mutt's nuts, check me out ladies look what your missin" I think to myself as I arrive at the lights and slow to a stop. OH NO!!!!!!!! My jeans have gotten caught on the heel guard and I can't get my foot off the peg!!!! At that very moment I am hoping that for some inexplicable reason I suddenly posses the properties of a Weeble to save me from the inevitable, sadly however, despite having the body for it I do not; and the the ineveitable happens. Still in crouched riding position I topple gracefully to my right as I think to myself "You don't see Weebles anymore do you?" I kiss Terra Firma puncturing the crank case cover my my really shiny stead and wounding what used to be a perfectly servicable ego.

And that is my principle argument for making dark visors legal!

Just before my DAS, sat outside the local dealership, as the other lad had gone before me. I was just perched there on the bike, waiting for the instructor to come back & take me for DAS.

I got to thinking "Hmm, I had a little trouble getting this ER5 up on the centre stand before, best practice it before the test just to make sure I've nailed it properly."

So there I am, holding the bike up, centre stand down, rock it, yup, seems secure. Hoik (technical term) the bike backwards & bugger it's got away from me.

Bike falls on its side, away from me Me in high vis with the riding schools name plastered all over it, and a face that's even more high vis!

Pick the bike back up again & decide to not try that again.

Luckily the examiner didn't ask me to either!

That is absolutely brilliant!

Old colleague of mine back at Newcastle did something similar on his bicycle. Had his feet in those strap things but forgot, the rest you can imagine...

Used to have a ZXR750 and was heading into town to meet my brother...

Got onto the elevated bit on the A40 and thought I felt the bag on the back shift. No problem pulled onto the hard shoulder and stopped.

Bit of a cross-wind, slightly unfriendly incline, no big deal. Swung off the bike, gave the bag a few experimental tugs, decided it wasn't going anywhere and went to swing back on the bike. From the LHS. Clipped the bag with my foot on the way over and proceeded to topple into a heap at the side of the road. Infront of the traffic cameras. And watched by all the passing traffic.

Worst thing was having to wait for a passing motorist to stop and help me pick the B*stard thing up again.

If its emmbarrasing you're after then I think this qualifies !After 3 days virtually fault free (DAS) training for my big bike test I pull up at the test centre in Worcester. The car park is on a slight bank and as I manouvred my Honda CBF500 into position at less than walking pace, I somehoe managed to lose my balance and the bike and I went crashing to the ground. All this in front of a waiting room full of candidates and their instructors waiting to go out on the car test ! Some (most) were laughing uncontollably and others were speechless. My only concern was that my examiner may have witnessed me falling off my bike from his office and there and then decided on my fate before even seeing me ride.Fortuantely, he was out on a test and only 15 seconds after I managed to get to my feet with the aid of my instructor who prized the machine off me, my examiner returned ot the car park. However I was still concerned that one of his examiner colleagues or another instructor may have mentioned my off.Anyway - he failed his pupil and passed me.
