Unfortunately I have to carry around what seems like half a ton of papers and/or laptop for everyday use when commuting, but certainly don't want fixed boxes/panniers on the SV

Placing all blame squarely on Matt's shoulders seems fair to me, particularly as he has comitted the arch sin of 'boxing' a yellow curvy......now where is that generator and the croc clips that attach perfectly to human genitals.

Just for the record i will supply the hardware.....perhaps someone with more 'expertise' in this area..bluesteel????....would kindly volunteer

We really need a dozey smiley like visordowns on here.

A topbox is a little more secure [as in leaving stuff on the bike] than a tailpack and very useful. While others walk around with their gear I can carry change of clothes and lock my gear away a little more securely than in a tailpack. And it sat more securely on the bike too... but then I have bad history with bungees

Oh and I can do far more shopping too... cos at Xmas, I have the top box, tailpack, panniers, tank bag and rucksack for the xmas shop. Who says you cant carry loads on bikes?
