Okay, so a 9 meet, 9:30 leave is the current plan. Anyone got an idea for routes?

Looks like the A1 takes us most of the way up, but I dunno if that's a bit dull... maybe dull our way up there so we don't get lost, then wibble about the place when we arrive?

How about A1 and A1(M) to nr Worksop
A57, A619 (To Chesterfield) (My Mum & Dad could do a tea break for us!) A61 To Sheffield, A57 across the Peak district including Snake Pass M67, M60, M66 (Just to get around Manchester) A56, M65 (J8 to J13), A682 and finally A65 To Campsite? The red bit is optional (NO LONGER AN OPTION, SEE BELOW) if we want a tea break in Chesterfield! Otherwise stay on the A57. I'm too lazy/stoopid to work out the mileage but I'm sure there are a couple of clever peeps who can!! ![]() There only a few miles on the motorway!!! ![]() Last edited by Jester666; 12-05-07 at 04:06 PM. |

Indeed. Might be, being the keyword. If Mark is in a fit state to ride up, then I shall accompany him. Just so I can laugh at him trying to get on and off the bike of course.
If Mark is not riding up, then I'm open to suggestions. Still don't know if Jo will be sat on the back or not at the moment. Her plaster is now not due to come off until the 22nd June so we wont know until then if she will be healed enough to ride pillion. From Jan 5th to 22nd June in plaster. ![]() |

I think as a rough guess it's about 280-300 miles but I'm sure someone will work it out exactly for me (please).
Only approx 70 miles on motorways! Any thoughts from you? The A57 should be the most fun section on the run! Great views across the Peaks. Quote from Wikipedia: The Snake Pass is the name of the A57 road where it crosses the Peak District between Manchester and Sheffield in the north of England, or more specifically to the section between the town of Glossop and the Ladybower reservoir, where the road passes over the high ground between the moorland plateau of Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. The highest point is 512 metres (1679 feet) above sea level. The road is exceptionally scenic - the view at the start of the descent into Glossop is quite remarkable, on a clear day offering beautiful views over the city of Manchester (over 10 miles away) and beyond. The road was first built as a toll road in 1820 as the most direct route between the two cities. In the 20th century, the more northerly route of the Woodhead Pass, which is less steep and at a lower altitude, became the primary road link between Manchester and Sheffield. The Snake Pass passes through the National Trust's High Peak Estate, and lies within the High Peak borough of Derbyshire. The name of the road matches its winding route, but originally derives from the emblem of the Snake Inn which is one of the few buildings on the high stretch of road. The pub's sign is derived from the serpent on the Cavendish arms of the Duke of Devonshire. The Snake Inn has been renamed the "Snake Pass Inn", (Stop here?), so the pub is now named after the pass which was originally named after the pub ! The road has a poor accident record. ![]() In winter, the road is often the first of the available routes between Sheffield and Manchester to be closed when bad weather affects the area. I used to live at the Sheffield end of the Snake Pass - actually on the A57. Cracking road, amazing views.
