Really sorry to hear about that, but bikes don't simply go out from under you, at least not at that speed. Glad you're ok, but don't hang your leathers just yet, like you said it was probably some diesel patch, so perhaps it's time to improve those observation skills (and ask for some better luck next time).

I'll agree with Filipe. Falling off is part of the fun. Wait, no, part of the ethos.

Bikers are so vulnerable that you (and I) will come off & taste tarmac sooner or later. For those that think that's bull because it hasn't happened to them, I sincerely hope you're right, but I suspect that is just a case of "not yet" rather than "not going to happen."

With that in mind, are you comfortable riding a bike knowing that sooner or later you'll come off? This doesn't mean you need to think about it every time you're on the bike, just something you have to accept.

If you are comfortable with the fact you're going to be feeling like this again, fix the bike & get back out there.

I've come off my SV twice now, both times were squarely my fault. I knew I'd done wrong (too much brake both times), so it was a little easier to adjust my riding suitably. The first time, yes, my confidence was knocked. The second time, being 40miles from home, I had no option (well, I could of called a recovery truck, but the bike was ridable, so screw that!).

Take a couple of looks at the bike, seperated by an hour or so at least, I find this helps to spot anything that you've missed before. Since you need a gear lever, I'm assuming you hit the left side of the bike on the tarmac. Common things to go here are bar ends, clutch lever, gear lever, pillion/rider pegs.

The engine probably cut out if the rear wheel was in contact with the floor & the bike was stationary. Simple stall is all. On my last off, the rear was off the floor, so it kept spinning (and at a fair speed too, since it was in 4th).

Whatever you do, make sure you're comfortable with it, and take your time to get adjusted to it again. It's natural to be concerned.

HTH.

Aw thats unlucky mate. Try to find out what went wrong, probably a slippery road patch if as you said you were going slowlyish and not turning very far, although I have never had that myself unless I was breaking or doing something harsh. Just give yourself a little time, then have a look at the bike and situation, you will feel better once the nerves have died down.

Is there not a tilt switch that cuts the engine when you go down? Obviously not on Baph's.
If you didn't hit anything hard then you should be able to see all the damage that you did and nothing should be hidden.
Real sorry to hear that your introduction thread has turned into your first off thread. That is very unlucky, but the best way to carry on is to carry on training. IAM for £80 for your first year, £30 p.a. after that I can't recommend highly enough. You don't have the protection & stability of a car, but hopefully you realise the advantages of a bike & don't give up before you start.

Tilt switches aren't fitted to SV's. However, if I keep falling off I might fit one myself.

My engine was off after my accident. Dunno why, although I know my rear was locking up as I was sliding. It's nothing to worry about, generally with no revs, and a high gear, if the wheel is at all touching anything I'd expect it to stall.

Pedant!!

Tilt switches that cut the engine when you lay it on the floor aren't fitted to the SV by Suzuki

Tilt switches for alarms are optional extras.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't exist on my bike.

I mean, I've had the battery out & most of the electrics out & don't remember seeing it. My bike has also been on it's side (once left, once right) and not cut out either time.

So either it doesn't exist, or mine doesn't work
