Wish her good luck and to keep fighting, I just lost my Dad in November to Cancer. His was the biggest killer for over 40s. Prostate.
So all you girls get your guys to get checked out. So guys get a regular check up. OK it's a couple of fingers up your hoop, but if my Dad had gone early enough he'd still be here with me now. ![]() No excuse for embarrassment in the doctors surgery!!! |

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend, Tara. I also had laser surgery to remove suspect cells 7 years ago. Luckily, I was fine, but I got in a cold sweat both times I've been for a smear test since until the all clear came through.
Please give your friend my sincere hopes that everything ends up well for her.

Tara
I sympathise with the friends and families of all going through cancers of all types. My father died of it, My brother in law has it throughout his lymphatic system, in his neck/throat, pancreas, lungs and is very bitter as he is only 49 and never smoked etc. For that reason, I have a direct debit that pays £15/month to a cancer research charity. Not a lot I know, but if all those affected by the disease who could afford to contribute did. Perhaps we might see greater strides made in defeating this most pernicious of diseases. I find it amazing knowing of several friends who have had cancers in their 20s that were initially dismissed by their GPs due to their age. One friend was so concerned about a breast lump that her GP told her there was nothing to worry about, paid for a private consultation that resulted in her having a mastectomy 3 weeks later. Thank god she came through it all positively. Her husband created hell with the GP who he accused of trying to kill his wife. The same with my sister in law who for 6 months complained of headaches. In the end her GP was so sick of her weekly visits that he tried to refer her to a psychiatrist, instead she demanded to see a neurologist who quickly found a brain tumour. Again thank god she has survived the surgery and her GP actually came to see her after the complaints from my brother. Lesson from the above. If at all you are worried about something. And your GP is dismissive, demand a second opinion from a specialist. GPs are human. They do not know everything, only you know your body.

Having just gone through the same experience (not to the same level) - I was diagnosed with cancerous cells, I recently had to have a day op to remove them; I just got the letter saying it was successful - stressful, but glad I kept my smear tests up to date! So, I add to the vote - GET TESTED REGULARLY!
And as for hating being a girl...nah, gyno visits may be cold, undignified and uncomfortable at times...at least we dont have a prostate and need to get er intrusive checkups at 50 yrs+! Thats just ewww ![]() Last edited by vixis; 24-05-07 at 10:54 AM. |

It was scary when I found out that her test had come back with some abnormalities, but hey, nothing to worry too much about, it happens, and a little trip to the hospital will get it all sorted out. It got a bit scarier when the letter came throught that following the checkup after a small medical procedure, that they hadn't got it all, and a more complex procedure (involving general anesthetic) would be required. It was a relief when the letter came through the other day saying that it was all ok. Dont think that T realised just how hard it hit me, well I didnt want to make her panic because I was ![]() David |

to me, it would be wise to try and identify the compounds that give rise to the chemotheraputic effect - it may be several (I know that some drugs work better when taken together - a "synergistic effect") or it may only be one. This way, other things can be removed, and make something really potent Matt |
