![]() My point being young people (reduced sense of danger & less experience) + more power = potential accident. . |

Yeah I think if I'd had any more than a CB100 when I was 17 I wouldn't be here typing now!

I agree with those who say that the difference between a restricted SV and an IL4 is significant and, potentially, more dangerous assuming that a similar method of restriction applies. It's because with the IL4 example the rider will never have experienced the way the motor delivers its power, whereas in the SV case you do. I never noticed much difference when the restrictor came off my SV and that was because most of the low down grunt had always been avaliable and I was used to it; just one of the reasons why the SV (and I suppose any other similar V-Twin) remains such a good first big bike.
To compare accurately we'd have to imagine a restrictor for the SV which only allows the rider access to the comparatively gutless top-end. This would mirror the removal of the IL4s power band. I'm sure the rider might be taken aback at the sudden burst of power they get driving out of a corner at low revs on the SV when de-restricted and it could lead to accidents. If the manufacturers were sensible then an IL4 restrictor shouldn't just knock off the top-end in my opinion, but act much like the onbaord ECU settings that GP bikes, and now some road bikes, have. An overall softening of power across the board that still retains the proportional balance of power distribution, if you see what I mean. |

how many people have you heard of that buy a restricted bike and then derestrict it before they should, i think this in my opinion is a bad idea in most ways. giving an inexperienced rider access (maybe not directly ) too a 100+ BHP machine is absolulty lunatic, it will happen, im capable of 130mph (indicated
