Oh god, apple's patented reality distortion field is slowly spreading to the org. The world as I know it, is about to end...

Re: New 3G iPhone - will you get one?
I wanted an iPhone when they first came out, but I'm currently on PAYG spending £5-£10 a month, so the £170 + £35pm was a bitter pill to swallow!
I got an iPod touch instead and its great. Can't put it down. Registered for the cloud wifi but never used it. No access at one heathrow terminal when I was there in jan, no access in service stations, only in a few pubs (where I don't want Internet usually) so that's been cancelled. Free wifi and occasional payg wifi at airports is more cost effective for me. The only annoying thing is that you can't copy and paste links which is useful on forums. I'm tempted back for the 3g iPhone; if the gps has decent sat-nav applications, but I don't think I can justify it against my iPod touch and payg setup. Eta: its nice watching DVD's, video podcasts etc if I'm travelling. And the iPod touch does what it does seamlessly. Works for me! Last edited by glade; 10-06-08 at 09:55 PM. |

Re: New 3G iPhone - will you get one?
<rant>
I decided to upgrade my XDA Orbit from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6 today. So I followed the instructions about backing up my data by syncing it to my work PC using Windows ActiveSync. The upgrade itself went (fairly) smoothly, apart from one worrying moment but, as expected, wiped the phone completely clean. No matter, I have a backup. So I resynced it with Windows and, yes, all of my contacts and calendar went back onto the phone. Now I keep my personal contacts and calendar on my phone and my work ones on my PC. So now both PC and phone are synced with work and personal stuff. So what I need to do is to de-sync them and remove the personal stuff from the work PC and the work stuff from the phone. Guess what? Can't do it. Microsoft won't let you. If I de-sync the two, Microsoft deletes everything from the phone. There's no way around this. I've tried everything. It assumes that the data 'belongs' to the PC and when you remove the synchronisation, it removes all of the data from the phone. I spent hours trying to work around this. I copied all of my contacts on the phone, one by one. Then de-synched. It deleted all of the copies too. I tried copying the data file itself, then de-syncing, then replacing the data file. That didn't work either. Eventually, I exported all of the contacts from Outlook as v-cards and then had to re-import them into the phone one by one. So what right does f***ing Microsoft have to delete my data from my phone without permission? I'm getting rid of this piece of sh!t, buying an iPhone and never, ever buying a Windows Mobile device again. Right now, I want the cnut at Microsoft whose idea this was, and a baseball bat. </rant> |
