Not entirely sure when they swapped the headlights over but be aware i think they also put a normal double sided swingarm on the 955 for 1 year

According to MCN it's slightly quicker.

Re: Oddity
I also owned this for 8 months in 2004. I was looking forward to owning a ZX9R, but was disappointed with it when I finally did. Even after replacing the shock with an Ohlins and having that sprung to suit me, it still didn't handle as well as I thought it ought to and the brakes were absolutely dire. Corrosion was setting in to just about every surface that wasn't painted and the wheel paint was flaking off after washing in large chunks. I sld it to buy a Gixer thou, but to be honest I was thinking of selling it to buy just about anything else. All the ZX9Rs I've seen have been built to the same standard as mine, and I haven't owned another Kawasaki since that one. I might consider it if they ever manage to engineer some quality into the finish.
Buy a Daytona 955i, but if you can get one of the last of the line 2003/4 model onwards, as all the niggles were sorted by then. IIRC the last ones I saw registered were old stock 2006 models and they were selling for about 6 grand new. The build quality of the Triumph is streets ahead of anything the Japanese have managed yet. Last edited by Lozzo; 19-08-08 at 12:03 PM. |

I believe it is quite common for Kwak brakes to wear out and be crap when they are worn. But Sid Squid Has just put his 3rd set of front calipers on his 6 (100K+ miles), Bear has replaced his calipers on his 9 & I have on my 7 and I think we are all very happy with our brakes now. Also no issues of corrosion on my ZX7R (FWIW) |

Re: Oddity
The Daytona is one of the quickest bikes off the line, because of the huge amounts of torque available. They aren't prone to wheelying, they just dig in and feck orf. On the top speed side of things, they will do about 180 on the clock. Factor that back by 10% for a true figure. My ZX9R would show 185 on the clock, but it was notoriously optimistic. I'd say it was only as fast as the Daytona, but the Triumph was more refined at speed and I felt happier going that fast on mine becasue the ZX9R's 6 pot Tokico brakes were abysmal.
