G2D, I worry about you. You're another GYKD, although (a) I don't think you're gay and (b) I think that his departure preceded your arrival. You speak like you're proud of doing nearly 90 in a 30. On a public road that would mean a ban. Maybe that would teach you that no matter how stupid you think the rules might be, usually they're there for a reason.

Totally understandable I don't think I was going over 60, but the accusation from work lies at 90. If you had seen the road you'd see it really is safe, it's out of bounds for pedestrians for a large area around it; It's like the type of long straight road you would get by a runway for cars. I'm not a fast driver at all, I like to amble along at 65 with radio 2 on normally
As for being gay; that's another thread

Yeah **** Health and Safety, lets go back to the old days of miners getting their hands cut off and children burned to death.

It's not their fault, the courts have basically made it so that you should be able to stumble around drunk at any place of work and not be able to hurt yourself, and even if you do it's STILL the employers fault. Companies have to go to huge lengths just to protect themselves.

My employer was successfully sued by someone who slipped on a toffee crisp wrapper that blew in through the door.

Phew, I was starting to think I was getting old prematurely as I was the only one thinking that there must be some cog loose to think that travelling past H&S at such speed was a good idea.

As BluePete says:
A speed limit is just a number. He's already explained there was no danger, so why should you care?

a) I don't care
b) The point I was making wasn't the speed he was doing, but doing it past H&S doesn't seem that sensible.

Sensible can get boring sometimes.

We had this announcement at work today:

Christmas decorations

The festive season will soon be upon us, and now is a good time to remind everyone to take care when hanging decorations. Staff may use stepladders to hang decorations but there are some basic guidelines to using them safely. Accommodation hold three sets of suitable stepladders which can be booked out to staff but we do ask that the request is made by a manager for the section who will assume responsibility for their safe use in the area concerned. Bullet points for their safe use will be issued with the ladders.
Please don’t be tempted to climb on desks, cabinets, chairs or other furniture.
The ladders are two metres high and are not particularly light. We are unable to deliver or collect the ladders so each section will be responsible for the collection and return of ladders from Accommodation, GB50. Because demand may be high over a few days, we are allocating the ladders on two hourly slots. Please contact XXX on ext XXXX if you wish to borrow a stepladder and she will allocate as close as she can to the time and day you request. The same pre-booking system will apply when it comes to taking the decorations back down.
