At least Toseland got to put on a show- ride in on a bike, play some piano. Not really an approach you could apply to the boxers- walk in, punch someone in the face.

What are we supposed to be voting for here? Their achivements or personality?

Why is it called 'sports personality of the year' and not 'sports person'

I don't get it, most of these guys are as dull as dishwater (apart from those that ride bikes obviously )

Nobody really knows. I mean, Calzaghi has a personality, fair enough. Kelly Holmes and Redgrave, aye. Freddie Flintoff, most definately, I hate cricket and I'm possibly an anti-english racist but Freddie was a deserving winner both on sporting achievements, and personality. Since he's an entertaining ****head.

But ZARA PHILIPS! Good god. She didn't even have enough personality to fill a winner's speech. Amazing! Yah! Did I mention it was amazing! My mummy won it too, isn't that amazing! She also skillfully managed to use the word "privilege" about 10 times last night, which really wasn't a wise choise of word. Jonny Wilkinson doesn't have any sign of a life off-pitch and his entire brain is used up on triangulating kicks, he's actually managed to suck more life from the sport than anyone else I can think of. Beckham, OK, I'll give him a break as he actually seems like a nice guy. But you can't not laugh when you discover Steve Davis won.

For me, performance of the night went to Sir Bobby Robson.

In an age of over inflated egos and vastly over paid footballers, he remains a humble man who was truly moved by all the attention given to him.

Respect.

The atmosphere in the studio was fantastic when Robson won his award. Totally moving.

What has Sir Bobby actually achieved please? I have respect for him as an older person but I am not aware what he has accomplished.

I'd like to see an award with an emphasis on Sportsmanship i.e. fair play.

Erm apart from League Championships in Holland and Portugal, taking a second rate Ipswich team to win the Uefa Cup, taking England to the verge of the 1990 World Cup final and managing some of the best players in the world over the last 60 years?

Not much really.....
