The later Bandit 1200s have a fuel gauge AND fuel tap, I assumed as it had a gauge there was no tap, so even though I was used to the idea of a fuel tap I still ended up having a "why bike no go?" moment on the test ride...

The old Kwak GT550 had a guage and a three position tap.The tap did on, res,and prime.Prime is the one that seems to pour all remaining fuel into the carbs, including the rusty dregs that all Kawasakis keep in their fuel tanks
![]() Sorry for the derail.Just thought Id mention rusty dregs getting into carbs. ![]()

Couldn't be happier that fuel taps are largely a thing of the past. Bikes with a fuel tap always die at the the worst moment possible, like at the bottom of a motorway slip road. Give me a fuel light or a gauge any day.

You lot are all too modern. When my first bike (BSA Bantam) ran out of fuel, you dropped it on its side so that the fuel could run over the top of the hump in the bottom of thr tank into the side with the tap............ The hump was there to clear the top frame tube.

Plowsie, your a dumb ass and should have known. Everyone
![]() ![]() My YZF had the best fuel reserve switch I have ever seen on any bike. It was an electronic switch mounted into the faring right next to the tank on the left hand side. It used to take about a second to switch over. ![]() ![]() |

The fuel tap on the Dullsville is a bit awkward. It's under my left leg and is a right bugger to get at.

That's where it was on my Virago too... Luckily, it had the side effect of stretching my arms with its ridiculous handlebars so I could reach the tap. And yes, I did totally forget about the reserve once, and another time forgot to turn it back to normal.
